If you're Al Davis (yikes!), what do you do, his team is 2-6 and at another dead end and he is still employing -- as of last check -- Tom Cable, the ultimate dead-ender coach. Davis has to be embarrassed by the recent reports about Cable's alleged history of violence against women, and Al is justifiably proud about his public and private stances against such behavior. He surely is readying a case to fire Cable "for cause" and he knows that his franchise, even as low as it has sunk, will be better off without this baggage. Source: San Jose Mercury News
Go right ahead Al, just get it out of the way now. You know you are going to do it anyway eventually.
Here's a post I made yesterday... If he does actually go through with firing Cable there is one more big question: Will he hire a replacement WHO CAN ACTUALLY COACH? Who here thinks he can/will? I'll have to see it.
The problem is the guys that can coach, don't want to go there. He'll either have to be really lucky and find some really inexpierenced guy and hopes he pans out (like he tried with Kifflin), hire some no name assistant that is willing to take the upgrade, or some retread that's desperate for a job (Dennis Green, Fassel types).. Oh and he'll need to stop sticking his nose into the coach's business. Hire someone, let them build their staff and let them coach his team, his way. If Al was willing to do just that the Raiders would be better off, then it'd really come down just acquiring the right talent.
