Has NFC finally caught the AFC?

  1. Yes, the NFC is now equal to AFC

    23.5%
  2. No, the NFC is still behind the AFC

    76.5%

This has been the case for about the last dozen years. Year in and year out, the AFC wins the regular season interconference match-ups. They are leading again this year. The AFC has also taken 9 of the last 12 Super Bowls. But is the NFC narrowing the gap?

With solid teams at the top of their conference (Saints, Vikings, Cowboys, Eagles, Falcons), is the NFC ready to claim they are on even par with the AFC or are they still a step or 2 behind?

I'd say that the elite AFC teams are better (Indy, Pitt, not so much NE this year), but there's more parity across the NFC. The last couple years the wild cards were decided by week 16 in the AFC.

Don't know how you could say that. They have looked outstanding lately, people down on them because of a slow start which should be no surprise with a qb coming back from a major injury after missing a year, a new OC, and several defensive veterans being replaced.

Brakos I'd put the Texans up against the Saints and I think they could win or be competitive against them and the Texans are not quite in the upper group of AFC teams yet. Can the same be said about the middle of the NFC against the top teams in AFC?

the texans against the saints? :icon_eek: um, the saints actually have something resembling a defense this year. the bears beat the steelers. the 49ers almost beat the colts. and i would put the eagles and falcons on their good days up against any of the top afc teams.

having said that, i think the afc is still a hair better than the nfc but it's not as big of a separation as it has been at times.

What is it with you against our D? Our offense is the side having issues. The D's solid as it's ever been.

I wouldn't do that, texans make too many mistakes.

i was thinking their offense is their strength but ok, we'll say the defense is solid.

I totally agree. The Pats have a ton of talent, and a QB/COACH that are hard to beat. We will develope as the season goes along, so don't count them out. Indy game is perfect to see where we are at going into the last 1/2 of the season. Then our Saints game to see how we match up with the NFC best.
AFC is still the best conference by far.

The NFC is still behind overall and I hate saying that, but what are you going to do, the AFC has had the 2 best QB's in the game for years. Two all time HOF greats. There are a couple more reasons, but you don't even need to go past Manning and Brady to say the AFC is better overall.

I would put the Cowboys up against any team from the AFC and think they could win the game this year. Last year Dallas did not make the playoffs but played the two teams that went to the AFC Championship game close.

A few stats for you. Thus far this season (through Week 10):

NFC teams have won a total of 70 games
AFC teams have won a total of 74 games

In head to head match ups of NFC teams vs. AFC teams:

NFC teams have won 17 games against AFC opponents
AFC teams have won 21 games against NFC opponents

I think it is closer than it used to be, but it looks like the AFC is still ahead.

The only NFC team that I could see winning it all this season is the Saints, but there are several in the AFC (Indy, Pittsburgh, NE, maybe Denver) that could have a chance to win the SB....

Vikings don't have a chance but Denver does, really? including Denver still really hurts your post. San Diego is better than Denver at this point.

Meh, not sure I would put SD over Denver, although Denver is in a mini-slump
