The Associated Press reports the NFL Players Association opposes commissioner Roger Goodell's call for players to tell their teams' medical staffs if they think a teammate shows symptoms of a concussion. NFLPA assistant executive director George Atallah tells The Associated Press on Friday that Goodell's suggestion is not an adequate solution. Atallah says that instead of wanting players "to police each other," the league should make sure doctors keep a closer eye on players. Source: RedZone
I can see both sides to this. One, if I'm a 2nd stringer and I report the 1st stringer, then how will my teammates look at me? But, if someone is just to stubborn/stupid to admit there's damage to their brain then maybe a teammate would be doing that person a favor by reporting him.
Do not play with fire. The more eyes on this type of injury the better. This is a serious life changing injury for a pay check. I've already expounded on this subject in another thread.
I agree 100%. No player is going to call himself out, but how are teammates qualified to diagnose symptoms consistent with concussion? Plus it would put well-intentioned players in an awkward position with the rest of his team. Medical personnel, and more of them, need to be more aware and be proactive vs. reactive. IMO.
