Miles Austin is set to be a Free Agent this offseason, and while he is a player that needs to be retained, what kind of dollar amount is he worth at this stage in his career? Should we be comfortable paying top dollar, which could wind up near Top 10 WR money. To a player that has had 1 good year A twist to the contract situation is that if the NFL goes uncapped, Austin will again be a restricted FA, and we can place a 1st and 3rd tender on him. A note from Stephan Jones Via Tim McMahon Kinda wish now that the Jets would have offered him a deal and we matched :icon_sad:
yep, that's the risk of not locking up a young player early. Miles is going to make them pay for their delay................ hahaha. that rhymed.
As far as him walking in a capped year, he will probobly get tagged. In an uncaped year he will be an RFA, meaning we can tender him a 1st and 3rd and have first refusal. Either way there is almost no chance he walks with us not getting anything
I wonder if Miles will go for a short term contract. I think thats what Jerruh has in mind right now but as we know it could change before the end of the season depending on what ensues from here on out. Miles comes up clutch later in the season I wouldn't be surprised if he gets "Paid" so to speak.
Franchise tag FTW. I wouldn't give him a long term deal until he proves he's not a one-year wonder. We're already stucked with one of those :icon_confused:
There may be no tag Fortunatly if there is no cap a 1st and 3rd tender would pretty much serve the same purpose and do so at a muchhhhhhhhhhhh lower cost. The only thing is you only get an extra 3rd instead of an extra 1st as compensation. But the price difference is huge. In 2009 the Tag amount for a WR in 2009 was 9.9 million. The price for a 1st and 3rd tender for a RFA was 2.8 million (both rounded up)
The Cowboys need to Keep Miles Austin, This is a player that has been in teh league for only 4 years and was 'Undrafted' played on special teams, Since T.O. was released in gave him an opportunity to show case his skills and the guy is good. He has paid his dues with the Cowboys. Lastly, Austin is the real deal look at his stats as of today: 824 Yards - Avg: 19.6 TDS:8 Cowboys still have 6 to 7 games left to play this season.
