Chiefs Eye Free Agent Safety Or Look Forward To 2010 Draft

The other thing that has held back the Chiefs this season is an overall lack of speed on defense. Kansas City is one of the NFL's slowest teams, and the team understands that the Chiefs aren't likely to return to relevance until that fact is addressed. The team could pursue a free-agent safety during the offseason or wait and try its hand at one of the elite safeties, Tennessee's Eric Berry or Southern California's Taylor Mays, in April's draft.

Taylor Mays would be nice. He's got the frame of Adrian Wilson. Let's see if he can play like him.

Mays can't tackle and can't cover. If Berry is there I say take him or the best OT.

i hope they go after a safety. ive been tired of seeing runners and receivers run right past our safeties.

The rest of SC can't cover. Look at May's entire body of work. It's not his fault the secondary as a whole sucks.

Still not sure why we got rid of Pollard.

What makes you think I look at ESPN? I don't browse for scouting reports online either. I live on the west coast and watch PAC 10 football.

Don't ever associate me with the four letter again.

Taylor Mays can't cover for crap. All he does is stand 25 yards back and head hunt - which leads with his head but doesnt get flagged nearly enough for because its USC - i would be shoicked if he has ever lined up 1 on 1 with a TE let alone a WR like berry does.
Mays is oly a top 10 pick based on rumours of his 40 time and his size, he is probably a SS in the NFL but may even be created into a LB.

Berry is the #1 DB if not the #1 player in the draft, he is a more assured tackler than Mays (who due to his head first approach misses a fair few tackles) he has better ball skills and is dangerous with the ball in his hand, and can also cover WRs and TEs...Chuck in the fact that he has a year under Monte Kiffin being used as anything from a LB-CB-FS and SS, i would guess he has a better understanding of the game aswell

But i hope the chiefs take Mays so that Berry avoids that hell whole

I'm a Pac-10 homer and I'll tell you right now, he is currently nowhere near a 1st round talent. I think if you're drafting based on what he could become with a great DB coach teaching him some fundamentals, he could be very good. But don't expect a superstar out of the gate.

    You talking about Mays right?

Have you ever watched either of them play?
USC gets shoved down my throat way to much and the only "good" thing i have seen Mays do is when he nearly KO'd one of his own players when yet again he just went in head first full steam

call it bias but my points are true he is making his stock out of being 6'3 225 and a 4.25

When he comes in at 6'1.5 and a 4.45 at the combine.pro days and flops we will talk and you can apologise

    Learn how to spell apologize.

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, I think he will be a good pro based on his play during his whole collegiate career. If not, oh well I could give a crap anyway.

...and yes, Berry should be a good pro as well.

The Chiefs could use another franchise level OT, DL, or Edge rusher before a Safety.

That being said Berry isnt your ordinary Safety. I think you take berry unless your passing on a sure fire "Next Jonathan Ogden" "Next Demarcuse Ware" or "Next Casey Hampton". Very good players at that spot in this draft, but IMO none you pass on an Eric Barry for. Being that there is no real top QB, Berry could possibly go #1 overall

This is the problem with discussing draft picks before the season is over.
