Now I'm not one to usually snitch over a loss, I know bad calls will be made during games, I know calls will be missed and things along that line, but lately this crap has really been bothering me. What the hell are these refs seeing as well as the booth? I think the Redskins today had a mixture of Helen Keller, Ray Charles and Timmy from South Park as the officiating crew, at least when it came to the Redskins. First I just want to say, if Shaun Suisham wasn't the most worthless kicker in the league, we most likely, I will say 97% guarantee we would have came out victorious, but this is what bothered me. For those of you who didn't watch the game. Moore on our team intercepted the ball, fell down, got back up and ran it, only to be stripped and have it taken back for a touchdown. The play would be reviewed. Looking at the replays on the jumbotron, you could clearly see Moore land on top of a Saints player, meaning he is down by contact. Reason I know this is because I absolutely hate the call. If you aren't tackled, you shouldn't be down, but thats how they rule it. Well that's what happened and guess what? 7 points to the Saints. Why? Maybe I'm blind, but is his lower half of the body not on top of the Saints player here? In overtime, Mike Sellers gets the ball, lands with his elbow down, then the ball comes lose. They call it a fumble, HOWEVER, they blow the whistle before either team could maintain possession of the ball. Yet guess who gets the ball? The Saints. I hate saying these types of things because the Saints are an exceptional team and even though we are going through a bad season, I honestly feel this game was given away to the Saints. The refs gave them 10 free points, the Field Goal being the three that won it for them. Again if Suisham made the damn Field Goal we probably win, but still. The officiating this game was horrendous in my opinion and I wish the NFL would look into this game. Even though the plan could have been keep the Saints undefeated to keep the Saints vs Colts thing going as well as making big revenue. Either way, besides the bullcrap calls, I think the Redskins played great, Campbell, Thomas, Sellers, everyone, except Suisham. That man has literally cost us all of our games the past 4 weeks. He needs to go. But I was happy with the team overall, to deal with the high explosive Saints, only to lose because of in my opinion, bullcrap officiating. Gotta give it up to them. Anyways I hope the Saints can continue to go undefeated, though there should be an asterisk next to today's game because of those damn refs :icon_evil: And as I said, I'm not a sore loser, I can take a loss, this was just some horrible officiating that seems VERY fishy. I might add, something you didn't see on TV (I recorded the game as well). After the Saints made their winning Field Goal in OT, the refs ran off the field as fast as they could, as if their lives depended on it. Which only makes me more furious. It's like they knew what they did and wanted to get the hell out of there.
you have the right to be upset, that was a load of bullcrap. maybe i'll elaborate later when i read your whole post.
That fumble in OT was pure shenanigans, his elbow was clearly down but the TV crew kept playing the replay slower and slower until the image became blurred and then they started saying that it could go either way. I feel for ya dude.
he's only down by contact if his knee elbow or something else hits the ground when he lands on the opposing player. If he lands on top of a player and nothing but a hand touches the ground he is not down by contact
Your right. They were BS calls and your team got robbed what should have been a victory and I would be FURIOUS if I were you right now. Take heart though in the knowing that in the big picture doesn't really matter to your team either way.
Yeah I know, but it would have been nice beating an 11-0 team at the time. Oh well, as long as we beat the Cowboys I'll be happy.
I'm pretty sure that earlier this season this exact same play was stated that the runner wasn't down when he was on top of a defender. So...
As I recall, if you touch the defender and hit the ground, doesn't matter if they were tackling you or not, you are down by contact. This same exact play happened during the playoff game against the Seahawks in 2007 with Landry, he ran it all the way for a TD only to have it called back because he was "down."
we got hit with crap calls yesterday as well. if not for the fact that the falcons aren't a good football team it may have hurt us.
Bad calls happen in all sports, but I'm convinced that the NBA is fixed! I don't even bother watching basketball anymore.
I guess if nothing else Hail you can take solace in seeing that so many fellow GIFers acknowledge that it was bullcrap- I've been a squeaky wheel a couple times w/o any support and that really pissed me off. Oh and I just watched the replay of the fumble on NFLN and you're right - they blew the play dead before McCallister recovered the fumble, thats some horsecrap.
Yep. I mean I know bad calls happen in games, but these things just seemed way to easy to tell, especially if I could be at home and watching it. We got robbed. Only think I'm glad about is we proved the Saints aren't crap when they face a real defense. The only reason they won was because we missed a field goal and the refs basically handed them 10 free points.
yes that was a bullcrap call because the NFL was panicking to keep the saints undefeated and there golden boy drew brees afloat. I winder how much those refs were paid off to make the worst freaking call in NFL history.
