Chiefs Tell Carl Peterson Not To Attend Celebration For Derrick Thomas

You can say what you want about Carl Peterson and his decisions over the years in regards to draft picks, free agents and contract negotiation tactics, but what you can never doubt is that for 20 years, Peterson was as loyal to the late Lamar Hunt as anyone. Despite that relationship, when plans began to formulate for Sunday’s halftime celebration honoring the late Derrick Thomas, Peterson was told not to attend. Considering Peterson treated Thomas like a son and handled his induction speech at the Hall of Fame earlier this year, giving Peterson the cold shoulder on Sunday was a classless move from the Chiefs, they should be embarrassed.

More respect lost for the Chiefs today.

 

For the last decade the football intelligence of the fanbase at Arrowhead has been in decline.

We've had fans being loud and even doing the wave while the offense is on the field.

The only thing I can think is they didn't want to risk the fans booing him and ruining the moment.

I was impressed with the speech he gave at the HOF induction, and think he should have been there.

thomas viewed peterson as a father figure since he lost his own father at a young age.

this is not cool at all. as unlikable as peterson is as a human being (i've met him--yes, he's a major cocksucker), he DID have a special relationship with Thomas and peterson would have been the first guy thomas would have wanted at the event.

well, you made a good point that the organization may have been avoiding the fans booing peterson during the celebration. and although some of the smarter fans would not have booed because they understood their relationship and respected peterson's right to be there, most of the stadium would have taken the opportunity to boo peterson, forgetting what he meant to thomas.

if i was clark hunt, i probably would have had the chiefs find and play a 30-60 second video of D.T. talking about his respect for peterson before introducing peterson and that would have helped 'remind' a lot of the people who wanted to boo that peterson had a right to be there and meant a lot to the person they were honoring.

do you think that would have worked? i think there may have still been a few boo-bird idiots but it would have lowered the numbers greatly.
