I've always hated popularity contests. Why? For one, I never won them when I was younger, being a scrawny little sports dork and all. For another, the general public tends to be pretty ... well ... I'll just leave it at this. So imagine my dismay when I read that Tracy McGrady, who has played exactly zero minutes in almost a full calendar year, is currently second among Western Conference guards in votes. That means that if voting ended today, Tracy McGrady would start in the all-star game. Steve Nash? Nope. Chris Paul. Try again. Brandon Roy. Nuh-uh. Damien Wilkins? Just making sure you were paying attention...... SB Nation ______________________ WTF? Come on Stern, McGrady hasn't played one minute this year. Let the players select the starting five. After that, the idiot fans can select Bob Cousy, Earl Monroe or whoever. This is ridiculous.
yep, sad state of affairs when this can happen. persoanlly i am surprised by this, i didnt think mcgrady was even relevant let alone popular still.
There's some speculation that a lot of votes are from China because of the Yao factor. Dunno, don't care....it's bullcrap.
Exactly and it seems silly in a game that people just have fun in (all-star/pro bowl), but it's really not peoples career can be judged based on all-star appearances and pro-bowls, when you say "_____ went to 9 pro bowls) sounds impressive and it is, but some can be bogus just based on fan voting, a panel of judges should determine the best of the best for these games.
i agree theres players that just get in because of there name and players will keep getting snubed until they change the voting. The year there was like 13 cowboys in the probowl i dont think there was 13 probowlers on that team not even close. Not sure if it was 13 but it was high.
And what's so funny about this is that TMac is the one of the most heartless players in the NBA of this entire decade. He's never even won a playoff series for crying out loud. This reminds me of how Grant Hill got voted in two straight years. WHo votes on this stuff? Is it fans that don't pay any attention to the NBA? I wonder that, but then wonder why they're voting in the first place if they don't hardly watch. Tmac's days of being a great individual player are long gone. The Houston Rockets organization are dying to get rid of him for anything they can.
