The Broncos could pre-empt such bargaining leverage by opening talks on a long-term contract with Brandon Marshall. But the receiver has his doubts. "I think if they wanted to get something done, it would have been done already," Marshall said. "But our ultimate goal is to win games and we have three of them left. Hopefully we can get that done. Regarding a contract, I think it's best if I just play it out." Marshall figures to become extremely wealthy, even by professional athlete standards. Wealthy, as in possibly the NFL's highest-paid receiver.

well, if marshall and his agent are looking for the richest contract ever for a WR, as the story hints, then i don't blame any team for NOT signing him. he's a huge risk.

He won't get it anywhere. However, he would look good in red and gold.

I think most people in this thread have forgotten how foolish teams become when a player of his caliber becomes available in FA at a position of need.

He is not the best WR in the game, but he just might get paid like he is.

I think the off the field stuff will scare off teams from spending that much money, but you never know a team might become desperate enough to offer him a lot. Although if there isn't a new CBA does he still become an unrestricted FA?

  10. If there is no new CBA in place by 2010, Marshall will become a Restricted Free Agent.

Under the policy for an uncapped year, a player must have served at least six years of service in the NFL in order to become an unrestricted Free Agent when their contract expires.

this is the first time i've heard this. considering 2010 is almost definitely going to be uncapped, this will affect a lot of players..................... interesting.
