The morning after the 49ers were knocked out of playoff contention, many of the faithful wanted Alex Smith's head on a platter, but not head coach Mike Singletary. He wanted to apologize to the quarterback - and did. Singleton said that shortly after Sunday's 27-13 loss in Philadelphia he cornered Smith, "and I really kind of challenged him on some things, some of those throws, or whatever. After looking at it, I have a better perspective. I don't have a situation in here where I'm sitting back thinking, 'Man, I thought Alex was making progress, and now I don't know,' " Singletary said. "I'm not there at all. I feel very good about his progression." Source: San Francisco Chronicle
Apologize? Since when do head coaches apologize to their players?? Edit: After reading the article, I think it was just a bad choice of word by the author.
