Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that Titans coach Jeff Fisher, who is Co-Chair of the NFL competition committee along with Atlanta Falcons President Rich McKay, says that teams that have played their way into meaningless late-season games shouldn't be required to keep pushing for more wins with their best players. "Clubs have a right to do what they choose or see fit from the standpoint of what's best for the club, you know, with the goal of reaching the Super Bowl. And I think that's always gonna be the case. You can't take that away from the club," Fisher told Alex Marvez and Howard Balzer of Sirius NFL Radio on Friday. "And I'll just say this: I mean, the teams that are upset and complaining and this and that, they should have won a couple more games earlier in the year." Fisher benefited from a decision by Colts coach Tony Dungy to rest his starters in Week 17 of the 2007 season, getting a 16-10 win that sent the Titans to the postseason.

Tom Cable must be so upset he could have used something like this to either bench Russel or maybe even get rid of Al Davis. I will refer to this as the Anti-Raiders Winning Rule.

If a team has a playoff spot locked up, that coach should reserve the right the rest their key players before the playoffs whether the fans like it or not.

i'm sure our elected Congressmen will probably end up sticking their noses in this whole situation since they think they're supposed to control everything in our lives .............................. :icon_rolleyes:

Considering that the NFL has a special dispensation from federal anti-trust laws, Congress does have the ability to step in.

I think the surrendering-to-victory teams should lose their highest draft pick.

It's one thing to rest your starters. But if the league finds that you intentionally lost the game, that's called throwing the game. Right? I think a penalty should be enforced in that situation, though it would be hard to differentiate.
