Saints Drew Brees Put Up MVP Numbers With No Pro Bowler At A Skill Position

Seven teams in the NFL won 11 or more games, five of them are in the NFC, and Drew Brees has posted his numbers once again without a Pro Bowl teammate at any skill position. Can Manning or San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers say that, Brees led the league in passer efficiency rating (109.6), completion percentage (70.6) and touchdown passes (34), he ranked in the top five in several others, including passing yards per game (292.5, second), completions of 25 yards or more (39, second) and average gain per pass play (8.54, third). The completion percentage mark broke an almost three-decade-old NFL record, set by the Cincinnati Bengals’ Ken Anderson in 1982 — and Brees did it while throwing the ball down the field at an unprecedented rate.

well, great qb's are able to succeed with anyone around them. having said that, it's not like the guys on their offense are slouches.

he has a great o-line, a few good RB's, a good TE, and a few good receivers. no, he doesn't have Randy Moss but he is surrounded by a lot of good/great players. Let's not pretend this is John Elway in the 80's that single-handedly carried teams to AFC championships with very little around him.

    ...What are you on?

Look at the receivers: Colston was a seventh rounder, he's not quick and at times his hands are questionable, Devery Henderson bounced around the league, Lance Moore was undrafted and didn't get many looks, Meachem had one solid season at UT and the Saints massive reached. None of these guys would be close to the level they have reached with Breesus. The one real talented receiver (Shockey) is barely utilized.

Mike Bell and Pierre Thomas are only producing due to the fact the opposing D's are scared crapless by Brees arm. Even then, you couldn't rely on them to win a game for you (Even though I rate Thomas highly).

The Line, okay it's a very good unit, but how many times do you see them getting blitzed? Again, their success is amplified by Drew.

Brees is exceeding the levels that Brady did with a similar cast (Pre-2007). For me, Brees is the clear No.1 QB this season, and unless the writers get their heads out of their arse and ignoring the losing season and vote CJ, Brees should be a clear winner.

Then again, I wouldn't be shocked if they give it to Peyton. Whenever they have trouble deciding they just give it to him.

I could spend ten minutes looking it all up, but I'll try and cut to the chase.

Colston has 1,000 yards and +8 TDs in all of the years he has been healthy. Just because he isn't overly quick doesn't mean he is some scrub. And being a 7th rounder doesn't mean crap except he was overlooked by far too many people.

Meachem has size and speed and is starting to produce.

Henderson does his job which is stretch the field and open things up underneath. Nothing special.

    Shockey is a playmaker.

I don't think Mike Bell is anything to write home about really but Pierre is a good all around back. He fits the offense perfectly. And when Reggie is healthy he is a threat on the field.

    Offensive line is very good.

I'm not saying Brees isn't a stud or a top 3 qb in the league, but don't try and tell me he has a lower tier supporting cast.

I'd be willing to bet you could put a good chunk of the starting QBs in the league in that offense with that type of play calling and I would bet you would see very similar production.

I think this is a really poor article. Coltston is a freaking stud play maker at WR. And since when in this day and age is the freaking PRO BOWL a measuring stick for anything. Most hard core football fans that I know think of it as a joke along with the NBA All Star rosters as well. Those games and the players that get voted have been a joke for years now. I wouldn't be surprised if somehow Michael Vick made the Pro Bowl this season or if somehow Roy WIlliams made it again with the way loony fans vote.

Colston is an absolute stud. He's easily the kind of WR that the author was talking about when he referred to pro bowl caliber talent. Meachum has been a pretty nice WR for a while now, but Brees spreads the ball around so well that he has never gotten great numbers until the end of this season.

I think most of us are trying to figure out what YOU ARE ON.

This statement right here takes away any validity that you might have had before entering this thread. The 2007 Pats were the best offense of all time and Brady's season was better than any QB of all time statistically that season and they should have won the SB if it wasn't for their defense missing an INT and letting the Giants march down the field. This statement was about as homerish as it gets.

Apparantly you haven't paid any attention to Aaron Rodgers who has been nothing short of magnificent all year long with a much worse O line than what Brees has had. Rodgers has been brilliant this season, so has Manning, and so has Brees. You could chop this award up three ways honestly. All 3 QB's have been that great. Brees is no "clear winner" by any means.

Pay attention to the actual article people, all it's saying is that Brees had NO ProBowlers at a skilled position, that's all, no where did it say that his team mates are slouches or not any good.

Pay attention to the following replies. andy82 had plenty to say about how weak the talent surrounding him is, and that is what we are commenting on.
