Recently fired Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner says Jay Cutler was doomed by unrealistic expectations in 2009, according to ESPN. "He came into a difficult situation with the expectations as high as they were," Turner said. "As soon as he got here everybody said 'Jay Cutler is here,' and now the expectations went through the roof. I don't know if that was realistic with the issues we had on the offensive line and with the young receivers. We all knew it was going to take some time. I'm not sure anybody else did. I think there was a huge weight on his shoulders to come in and really produce at a high level." It's a good sign for the supposedly "coach killing" Cutler that his former coordinator did not throw him under the bus when given an opportunity to. Expect Cutler to have a nice bounce back season in 2010, and for his 26 interceptions from this season to be nearly cut in half. Source: Rototimes.com
man i feel like there was a qb in the nfc north that over came HUGE expectations two years in a row now.... hmmmm... the hate for cutler grows
Are you kidding me? Ron Turner's crapty offensive system, his even worse playcalling and the lack of talent around him doomed him. I understand as a Packers fan you must hate him, but it's painfully obvious that Ron Turner was the problem here.
idiot did you even read his post? It had more to do with Rodgers than your lover boy Jaylicious Cutleritis.
It was a shot at Cutler about not dealing with this "high expectations". Rodgers expectations were certainly helped by having two pro bowlers to chuck to. Lover boy? Hey, I admit it, I think he's an awesome player and he doesn't deserve the heat he's getting. I doubt many QB could succeed with that coaching staff and surrounding talent.
here we go with this pro bowler crap... Theres nothing wrong with the talent Cutler is surrounded by aside from the Offensive Line. A good QB would make it work. And by your logic Hester, Olsen, and Forte should be all-world beaters because they were high draft picks.
I used the Pro Bowl to termalize the talent he had surrounding him, not because I believe a popularity vote makes them good. And there's no need to condesend with the draft pick bullcrap, I've been around here long enough for you to know that I don't milk that crap.
many of us were saying BEFORE the season that everyone was expecting too much out of Cutler. the fact that Ron Turner is just now figuring it out is disturbing ...............
Maybe Jay Cutler was doomed by Ron Turner. Turner and his staff were just fired not Jay. Better late than never I suppose....
That is true. Rodgers has been remarkable and exceeded expectations big time. However, this article couldn't be more true. Cutler is going to make a lot of people look really stupid in the next two years if they can get him a little bit of talent on that offense and an OC that knows what he's doing. Cutler is a good QB. He was forced to do way to much this season. I saw him in plenty of games where he impressed the hell out of me having to throw to such garbage WR's. Just about every game Cutler was asked to win it for them and that shouldn't have been the team's philosophy for winning. Their defense was horrible, their running game was horrible, and that team shouldn't have ever had high expectations this season. Cutler needs to settle down some. Stop worrying about the press and the expectations. They need to get him some weapons and a running game, and he'll be a damn good QB. The guy is a damn good passer.
lol...cutler throwing a ton of interceptions isn't new to his days in chicago, he did the same thing in denver. everyone falls in love with cutlers big arm, but its his big head thats his problem...what has he ever done in this league?...nothing....he's not a winner
I don't know maybe thrown for over 4,000 yards for Denver the year before last and had a pretty damn good season where he almost threw for 30 TD's. That year the Broncos won every game where there defense gave up less than 24 points or something like that. Cutler was pretty damn good last season regardless of what anyone says. The Broncos had one of the worst defenses in the entire league and the Broncos had a poor running game as well and were playing from behind a lot where Cutler was constantly having to throw the ball where other team's D knew what they were doing making it more challenging. Cutler easily looked like one of the bright young stars at the QB position last season along with Rodgers and Rivers. This year he took a step back stats wise because he tried to force way to many balls and had to try and win games with his arm way to much, but that wasn't all his fault either. I expected Cutler to struggle this season on a new team with horrible weapons, but I didn't know that he'd have no running game to help him. A lot of you people that are writing off Cutler so fast are going to be eating a lot of crow in the next few seasons when he surprises some of you. That is if the Bears can ever get him some sort of weapons to throw to.
the fact is look at his interception numbers in denver...he throws picks, has never won the big game really, and is highly over rated in my opinion...honestly throwing for 4000 yards in the big picture doesn't mean rod...he has never taken care of the football....and also check out how mani of those int's his last year in denver were on his own side of the 50...defense may have been awful but cutler gave opposing teams a short field to work with quite a bit...that doesn't exactly help the defense
No personal attacks If you would give Cutler a line and some WR, he would do way better. Look how Rodgers improved after he hasn't run for his life each down
If one replaced the name Cutler with Fartve the media would portray Fartve as god with the same stats. :icon_rolleyes:
