Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis is expected to fire coach Tom Cable today, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A meeting between Davis and Cable was scheduled for today, and the newspaper reports Cable will be let go, but it's uncertain for exactly what reason (the Randy Hanson scandal or the failure to win games and groom No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell into a starting quarterback). Just last week, Cable held a team meeting, met briefly with Davis and began roster evaluations with his assistants in a typical start to an offseason. "All I know is I have a contract right now," Cable told the Associated Press on Jan. 5. "Whether or not that's honored is not up to me. I'm a ball coach. I'm a damned good football coach so things will work out. They always do."

I thought he was doing an ok job considering, who can you get to take that job without giving full power?

The Raiders are going to get to the point where nobody will want to coach for them unless they are desparate or stupid.

This is a Bad Move if you ask me... UNLESS, Jim Harbaugh replaces Cable.
We just need a Coach that will use Darren McFadden the right way... all he needs is MORE touches.

terrible move...Cable was a good coach, he was a good motivator for the players, they loved him. If anything, I'd say hire an offensive coordinator and let Cable just be the HC.

Is it just me...or does it seem like whenever the Raiders are going to fire a HC, there are 2 or 3 weeks worth of articles about it before it ever happens...but when any other team is going to fire a HC, boom, it's done and over with? :icon_eek:

your freaking delusional Cable sucked butt as head coach he could not motivate this talented team to beat the browns or Chiefs. we couldnt win back to back games its bullcrap. The only reason we beat certain teams is because of the bulletin material. I cant believe you would settle for such a low level coach, when the chiefs just hired weis and crennel atleast they know what they are doing they are ahead of us now. I want someone who is a proven winner not yes men with a clipboard. He knew he needed an OC since the season started he should of gave up play calling duties along time ago for that alone he should get fired i dont want somebody learning on the job this aint McDonalds.:icon_frown:

Based on your team faves, it seems that you are from LA. That said, exactly how many games did you watch?

Just cfreaking in to see if you saw what I saw.
Because, the last couple of weeks, the team was competitive, which early in the year it was not. You mentioned the losses to Kansas City and Cleaveland. Not to make any excuses, but the Kansas City game we had an oppurtunity in the end to come through after Russell got benched, and poor play by DHB lead to an interception that killed the comeback.

And the Browns were in the midst of a four game winning streak, and were playing hot, and we stayed with them and never gave up, which is key, because these past couple of years this team gave up. Yes Tom Cable is not a good coach, but he made the players believe, he put up with Al, and if a couple of plays went our way, this could have been a .500 team.

weve been saying the same crap for the last 5 years the last 2 games of last season we were also competetive and what happened? yeah we leave to many excuses to chance i dont need the players to believe i need them to compete and hit someone in the mouth. i thought thats what cable would bring since he literally did it. He is soft and thats why our players get to go across the field with smiles on their faces and hug ray lewis after they just shelacked us. You think that happened when they beat us in the playoffs? no. Chucky had the fear in them thats why we won. Im not saying i dont like him hes been great at tackling the media and adversity but that still does not make him a good coach. I believe raider fans are tired if the coaching changes and thats why their content having Cable i say heck that i want a High profile coach with some experience in winning in this league. You shouldnt be content with mediocrity we are the Raiders lets return to Committment to Excellence and not Committment to Average or below.
