The limitations of the Ravens' passing game were apparent in the divisional-round loss to Indianapolis as veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason, 36, is slated to be an unrestricted free agent and he told ESPN.com he is unsure whether he will play in 2010. Reserve WR Kelley Washington also will be an unrestricted free agent, with Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams to be restricted free agents if there is no salary cap. Flacco, who battled a hip injury in the playoffs, has flashed considerable potential at points of his two-year career, but the makeup of his WR corps, however, could be different in 2010. Good, Mason will probably hang it up and I think we should let everyone else go and start fresh - Clayton is incredibly inconsistent and undersized, Washington is too little too late and Williams only shows enough production to remind us that he is freaking away his once sizeable potential. Time to drop some bucks to take it to the next level.
This definitely needs to happen. We REALLY hope Mason comes back; if he doesn't, he doesn't. Williams will be gone. I think Clayton needs to go; he just disappears when we need some production from someone other than Mason. Washington I like; I think he should stay. He has shown that he can be productive in the clutch; not that he will be, but that he can be. I think he's better than most of the other guys we can fetch off the free-agent market. Definitely draft a WR in the first or second round, and also make a run at Anquan Boldin, Brandon Marshall, or some other No. 1 receiver. Sign a veteran free-agent to anchor the corps if Mason doesn't return. Our corps next year should appear as follows: Boldin/Marshall/true No. 1 receiver, Mason if he comes back, up and coming first or second round draft pick with potential and upside, Washington, and veteran free agent signing if Mason retires.
^Vincent Jackson wont happen, no way Chargers let him get away plus he'll be a RFA. Maybe Denver moves Marshall we could send them a 1st or 2nd, Also draft another WR as well as a TE to be the heir apparent to Heap. Also Philly needs a thumper a HB, maybe Mcgahee for Avant? However we do it we have to be ultra aggressive, If we dont come into next season with 2 new starting caliber WR's that can get seperation and a TE that can force cam into some 2 tight sets then we failed.
A little to late for that at this point. Ozzie Newsome owes every defensive player on that team a huge apology for expecting them to carry the team every season. It's been pathetic as anything I've ever seen. I couldn't believe that Newsome refused to address the WR position the last two off seasons. Well now, the defense isn't the same world beating defense that it once was and Ray Lewis and Ed Reed will both be another year older and that defense will mist likely take another step back next season. For years the Ravens couldn't find a QB and let Billick stick with Boller forever, and then when they finally got Flacco, they still didn't address the WR position and help their young QB out. The Ravens have been so close year after year, and that's been the difference between them and the Steelers. The Steelers have had play making WR's all of these years and they got their two SB's with great D and just enough offense to make it happen. The Ravens have so ignorantly thought they were going to somehow pull off another 2001 season and have their defense bring home a SB trophy. That wasn't going to happen again. The Ravens had a great shot at Marshall and Boldin last off season and didn't do jack. Now Marshall will be worth a lot more and Boldin's not quite enough at this point with his injuries. They had better try everything to get Marshall. This organization owes a huge apology to Ray Lewis.
Alot of valid points, our front office has dropped the ball at WR, but they have made attempts as well. We have attempted on other times in the draft and got caught in runs at the WR position. Other times teams like Arizona and Kansas City were asking for too much. We still have what it takes to contend and will get the position resolved, we dont have alot of glaring needs we just have to be able to attack the whole field. Is this the 2000 defense? no but its still very good, we contained manning and that passing attack failry well with our 4th, 5th and 6th corner and no pass rush(which we will also address this offseason) no need to feel bad for anybody here, we will be a good team for a long time.
