The Chargers are expected to finalize a contract with Turner soon. The Chargers' 17-14 loss to the Jets on Sunday should not affect the team's plan. Turner is 32-16 in his three seasons as the Chargers head coach and has reached the playoffs in each of those years, going 3-3 in the postseason. Source: ESPN
So Schottenheimer goes 14-2 and loses his playoff game. He gets fired but Turner goes 13-3 and also loses his first playoff game but gets a contract extension. WTF.
exactly...and guessing Schotty's playoff record was as good or better then Turner's and he inherited Martys team.
Marty never won a playoff game in his four seasons as Chargers Head Coach. He lost to the Jets in the 2005 Wildcard 20-17 in Overtime and to the Patriots in the 2007 Divisional Round 24-21 when they were 14-2 in the regular season and had the #1 seed. His strained relationship with General Manager A.J. Smith was a key factor in Schottenheimer's firing after the '06 season.
I think Turner gets credit for the team's turnaround from a 2-3 start to winning 11 straight before falling to the Jets.
Norv's record as a Head Coach: 94-991- (0.485) Norv's record as a Head Coach in games which are decided by 7 points or less: 38-57-1 (0.395) I did a piece about this a year or so ago after they blew a game against the Colts and he has improved his record since but the point still stands: Norv Turnip = choker.
Not to mention, he only won like 3 playoff games with the Chiefs! I still don't think Norv is the greatest of coaches.
Turner is now signed through the 2013 season. Norv Turner's contract extended through 2013 - SignOnSanDiego.com
