Joe Theismann Says QB Tim Tebow Should've Retired After College Career

In a Radio Row interview with Mike Dempsey of 1010XL in Jacksonville, former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann was candid regarding the pro prospects of former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow. Theismann thinks that Tebow should have retired after his college football career ended. "Rock star status preserved, obviously at Florida they don't teach throwing the football." Theismann said.

i agree....i dont think he should try to play QB on a pro level. he will be hated by all the fans of the team brave enough to give him a chance, he will be known as a bust even though its pretty widely expected. it will ruin his legacy despite having the most legendary resume ive ever seen in a college player....and he could make a fortune in broadcasting while still saving the world like he wants to.

or just play TE

 

Yeah, tell a kid that stayed in school for 4 years to retire and not collect that mega-paycheck? He's gonna give it a shot and why shouldn't he?

 

i mean i agree he should enter and get a contract and play it out there is just no way in hell i can see him being successful...he will get drafted high enough to get a pretty big signing bonus and nice salary but i dont get how you cant see why people are down on him?

he was terrible throughout the senior bowl process
he has nearly never taken snaps from under center
he has never had to read a defense because of the gimmicky crap UF runs
he has some of the worst throwing mechanics and footwork a QB can have
hes very inaccurate
he is a reckless runner and that will kill him in the pros

i mean sure hes a good kid and is motivated but he needs some serious coaching to ever be effective and imo has no chance of ever being great. he projects to be terrible, thats just how i feel

 

He has a worse delivery than Byron Leftwich and not even close to the arm he had

Harsh but you can see his viewpoint, why ruin your god like status when he could step straight into a ESPN spot.

 

So you wouldn't give a career in the NFL a chance if you had a shot at one?

If he pussed out and never went pro then that would always be the knock on him - and lets not forget that this is all in the future tense. If he's good enough to get drafted then he's good enough to take a crack at it. All that having been said, I don't expect alot either.

yea I agree. He spent 4 years there gettin read for his pro career so why not go out and get drafted and do your best in the nfl

 

i know that a top prospect doesnt always pan out...like leaf. but tebow has way less working for him than they did

i love college football because i love the draft and watching guys go pro....clearly ill give him a chance, what choice do i have? i think it would be idiotic to take him in the first round since hes a 5th round prospect at best. i dont think bradford will do crap in the NFL either, not because i hate sooners and he has great form and physical tools.

i think tebow should try his luck at TE, but clearly he wants to be a QB..i dont think he can do it but im not guaranteeing he wont, i know hes a hard worker, motivated, coachable....but i think the odds are stacked against him. i think i have a legitimately reasonable opinon

 

Well now Joe, why don't you tell Tim to go to the Canadian Football League like you did for the first few years of your career before the Redskins acquired your rights from the Dolphins?

Theismann is ignorant. Tebow will get drafted by someone somewhere, he may as well give it a try. If he just up and retires, people will go on about the fact Tebow never tried. Again, Theismann is just so ignorant...never have liked him.

 

I'd guarentee it, while partly because i do hate him/the gators out side of his leadership i do not see one attribute that will make him a top QB outside of decent accuracy on a long ball.

However he is going to make an absolute she dload in endorsements

 

oh he wants to save the world and will absolutely dominate with his hero, good guy, the perfect role model, you can do anything you put your mind to bs and will have companies lining up to suck his rod

he could be the best arena league player of all time though
