Bill Cowher Says Patriots Are The Team Of The Decade

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Feb 4, 2010.

  1. The Colts (one Super Bowl win thus far), Patriots (three Super Bowl wins) and Steelers (two Super Bowl wins) are the only real competitors for the mythical title of team of the decade. Some have suggested that the Colts, with a record 115 regular-season wins to the Patriots' 113, could claim the title with a win on Sunday. But Bill Cowher, the former Steelers coach who led Pittsburgh to one of its championships, said the contest is already over: "I think the decade still has to go to New England, but the Pittsburgh Steelers went to a lot of championship games, won two Super Bowls and the Colts I'm not so sure within the last five years they haven't been the most consistent football team."

lol, please. The Colts can win this weekend and still not even be close, and will still have under achieved this decade in my opinion.

First half - Patriots. Second half - Colts. 10 years - Patriolts.

I'd really struggle to name a "team of the decade" because for me there hasn't really been what I would call a true powerhouse. Colts spent the decade completely reliant upon the success of Peyton Manning and their lack of a solid D cost them a few Superbowls IMO, Patriots spent the first half of the decade with a fairly mediocre offense whilst finishing it with a machine of an offense and an offkey D. I don't think the last decade produced anything like a 60's Packers, 70's Steelers, 80's 49ers or 90's Cowboys, but that's just my opinion.

They arent the team of the decade imo because of the cheating i think its the colts especially if they win this weekend

Cheating? Screw sake, I'm sorry but I must be naive because I don't see what the issue is with recording signals. TV does it all the time.

To remove all credibility because they record the coaches is simply pathetic. Teams letting players take steroids and HGH is far worse IMO.

you are becuase its a big advantage. but to me nothing was proven really and goodell shredded the evidence so we will never know how far it went. does make one wonder why the evidence was detroyed though.

anyway, the patriots are easliy the team of the decade. they were dominate while playing in the far supeior AFC and pretty much owned the colts and other top teams during that span.

But did the Pats have the cheating advantage over the Colts during their dominance?

and since it was never said which way or the other.

i think the Colts win by default.

i think those Pats SB wins should have an asterisk by them.

since no1 will come clean on how deep their cheating went.

the problem is warcry, we dont know. maybe it didn't mean crap, maybe it meant everything. we don't know either way and again for some reason goodell destroyed the evidence. believe me i have a reason to be pissed if they cheated and it sure as hell looked like the pats knew the exact play we were running but again, the proof was destroyed.

I reluctantly (b/c of the cheating) give it to the Patriots.

We can never tell what the extent of their cheating was, but from what we know, it's completely unfair to discredit the Pats of their achievements throughout the decade. It's not clear cut cheating like Barry Bonds getting the HR record or Floyd Landis' infamous Stage 17 of the 2006 Tour De France.

like i see how the patriots are #1, but the steelers lose #2 to the colts? after all the playoff blunders by manning and 2 superbowls by the steelers?

    shenanigans

Definitely the Pats. 4 Super Bowls with 3 wins is far above Pitt and Indy. Just going to the Super Bowl is a big accomplishment.

Talking about cheating, Colts at the RCA Dome always used to pump crowd noise through the PA System. Guess Steelers are the legitimate team of the decade then.

it's interesting to hear everyone's take on the pats and their legacy with cheating thrown into the mix. personally, i don't put an asterisk by the patriots success because i'm 100% certain that every other team in the league was/is doing similar things to give themselves an edge. i'm certain many SB winning teams have been heavily involved in PED's. I'm certain many SB teams have tried many different methods of finding out their opponents game plan. where do we draw the line? whenever there is a crapload of money at stake, human beings will do whatever it takes to be one of the successful ones to get their hands on the money.
