The Rams are interested in trading out of the top spot in this year's draft, moving down a few spots and acquiring additional draft picks and players. Chris Steuber of Scout.com reports that he's been told that the Rams and Buccaneers have had exploratory discussions on a deal, which would involve the team's first round selections (No. 1 and 3), possibly one of the Buccaneers second round picks (they have two picks in the second round: No. 35 and 42) or their third round pick (No. 67). A source close to the situation in St. Louis told Steuber that if a deal with the Eagles can't be consummated prior to the draft for Michael Vick, they may take the Bucs third round pick over one of their second round picks, because they're "very high" on third-year quarterback Josh Johnson, who they would insist being in a potential trade with Tampa Bay. I liked Johnson as a developmental guy coming out, actually thought higher of him in 07 than I did Freeman in 08, but he hasn't done much with what he's gotten so far. I never thought he'd tear up the league from day one or anything, but he definitely has the potential to be good in time. Might need another year+ as a part-timer before giving him the reins.
ONLY thing I dont like about this is that they will lose out on McCoy going to 3 but other than that it would be a great deal for both sides
This makes no damn sense to me. Don't get me wrong I want Suh, but the Bucs don't spend money. Why would they want that huge contract?
I'm not a fan of this but I prefer it over taking Vick. The big question for me is what would we do with that No.3 pick? Would we take Jimmy Clausen even though we would have just traded for a QB? Suh & McCoy would be gone which would leave Berry and Okung as the last elite prospects, and neither really fill a gaping hole (We need a Right Tackle but no way we address that with the 3rd pick).
Not if Johnson part of the deal IMO. They seem to really like him, and the kid's got serious NFL tool's. I think Johnson is there alternative to taking a QB high in the draft. Its a gamble, but it could pay off big time **********Automerged Doublepost********** My guess would be Berry or trade down again
no one looks at josh johnson and thinks yeah hes the QB of the future for our franchise. i think they would still take clausen, they need him, they need a big name QB to get the value of the franchise that lost $200 million last year back up
There's no way we take Berry. Safety is one of our strongest positions on the team (James Butler & OJ Atogwe). K-Train, if we did take Clausen at No.3, all we would gain is a cheap contract, a back-up QB and a third rounder that will no doubt be a bum. Would be a waste, especially now we are in a no-cap situation.
Johnson is raw, but he has the physical tools and intagables to be a quality starter in the NFL. I was a big fan of his when he came out
who do you want? at 3 you have value for okung and davis but arent the biggest needs, maybe JPP if you want to go with potential stud DE, Dez bryant could be a dark horse. berry would clearly be the best player on the board and if they take BPA he would be it
I want Clausen, but I'd rather take their second rounder as well as their third instead of Josh Johnson.
