Mike Sando of ESPN.com writes that Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, could be an attractive option for the Rams. The Rams' quarterbacks coach, twinky Curl, spent a few seasons with Pennington when both were with the Jets. Sando is not certain how many other teams will pursue Pennington this offseason, but he believes the Rams might be able to offer Pennington something he could have a harder time finding elsewhere: a starting job. I just don't see someone as fragile as Pennington in a team that is in complete rebuild mode that doesn't have a solid O-line to keep him on his feet, much less to keep him healthy
:icon_rolleyes: Pennington would teach Clausen how to be a QB. He is a patch to hold the reigns until mid seson or so.
It's a young line rather than a poor line. Sure it's much improved from the last few years. I wouldn't object to Pennington, as long as there is an heir in waiting.
I dunno about a patch he might be more of a cast due to his injuries and lack of a strong arm, and OK i wont say that their O-line is terrible since they are young but you can't take a risk on an injury prone vet QB where they also don't have a very good WR core and you need at least a good WR to be open for the QB to get rid of the ball in time. Its a rather sad and unpleasant situation in ST. Luis
The WR corps aren't completely horrible (Remember, all our receivers are first or second year guys) but there's no true number one guy out of the bunch (Avery is a very good number two, but no more than that). Won't be surprised if this is addressed within the early rounds of the draft.
Do you know the WRs Miami has? Besides Ted Ginn? Pennington is the perfect patch for a rebuilding team because of his knowledge of the game, leadership, and his ability to teach young players.
True but what made Miami successful in the passing game? The Wildcat! And who can really run the wildcat? VICK!!! not Pennington
Pennington 2-3 years ago would be an okay patch for a team with more weapons (Arizona), but I think his age along with coming off a third surgery isn't the way to go. I respect the guy and like him as a player, especially what he's been through and overcome, but I don't know if he's the guy you want starting around a team like this, because your rookie might be thrust in a little earlier than you wished. I think you go get a different type of Vet for this team. Leftwich (who's going to be nothing but a back-up or bridge from now on IMO) or keep Bulger and let him be your bridge.
I think Pennington is NOT the way to go for the Rams. Obviously anyone would probably be better than what they had...but Pennington has a noodle for an arm and can't stay healthy.
Yeah that's a statement from someone who has seen nothing but ESPN highlights, not actual gameplay. As for Vick running the "wildcat", well how well did it work for Philly? **********Automerged Doublepost********** As I said earlier, Pennington would be there to teach Clausen how to be a QB, it's not like the Rams are going to the playoffs next season anyway.
Actually i watch the games and sure Vick wasn't put on the field enough to display what he has and to be honest i personally think that he was still out of football shape and probably needed a year to be able to be back to a bit of the shape that he was before going to jail but if you noticed towards the end of the season specially against the Falcons game he was able to display more than he had showed all season. Well if you want to Pennington to teach Clause then hire him as a QB coach but he cannot make it as a Starting QB he has been injury prone and cannot throw the deep ball and believe me you don't need to use the excuse of highlights cause its pretty clear that Pennington is not what he used to be and every year he seems to be hurt in some way or another. And another point is that the Rams wont take Clausen cause they will not make him the 1st overall pick of the draft. Suh is the best available player, even though i think that Eric Berry is the best available but a safety has never been taken 1st overall and the Redskins are the team that are most likely to get him. So don't give me your little noob ESPN highlight reel line on me cause trust me i watch the games and even as a promotion gig it would bring more excitement to bring Vick over Pennington cause with Pennington you know he is done and is not the same QB that he used to be while with Vick its a gamble that could bite them in the butt (no pun intended on the dog thing) or it could turn out into a career revival
Vick to St. Louis isn't ideal IMO, especially for an attempted career revival. He won't have the weapons around him to succeed, and that's what he's going to need. He's not the guy that can get it done by himself, I think if you send him to Buffalo you have a better shot because you at least have a defense you can work with. STL just needs to start over, period.
