Antrel Rolle and the team have talked contract, but this close to Rolle's magic date - he's due that giant $4 million roster bonus next week - beat reporter Darren Urban expects him to be released into the open market. The Cardinals believe Rolle would like to come back, but again, it's all relative when it comes to dollars. One of the problems in the Rolle situation: When you're talking numbers with a guy, Urban doesn't see how the Cards can want to jump him over the deal Adrian Wilson just signed last season. I would love for us to give Rolle a look in free agency. He has proven over the last few years that he is a much better free safety than a corner. Even if Kenny Phillips returns at or some point during the 2010 season, the free safety position could still use an upgrade. Michael Johnson has been decent but not dynamic and Rolle has become one of the better playmaking safeties in the league. He won't come cheap but likely won't demand a hefty contract either like teammate Karlos Dansby is expected to. Realistically, we have a much better chance inking Rolle to a contract than Dansby and Vince Wilfork imo.
The article mentions the Giants as a possible suitor. Can't wait to see how this unfolds when Free Agency begins on March 5th at 12:01 a.m. EST.
Especially if Dansby comes aboard also I think that would give him some more incentive to come to Miami.
I'll be chugging Drano if this happens. After force feeding some to every member of our front office that is.
Nope, every team in the league would be lucky to have him. He may whiff on some tackles occasionally, but he's getting better every game after switching to FS, and he's a natural play maker at the position. I'd be 100x more pissed about losing him than I would about losing Dansby. Not even close.
:word: As P16 says, your blood boils when Rolle gets juked occasionally, but except for those, he's a stud that the Cards would miss much more than Dansby.
