The Washington Redskins have reached an agreement with free agent running back Willie Parker on a one-year deal with a maximum value of $3.1 million, according to a league source. Parker has been told there will be an open competition for the starting job. Parker will compete with incumbent starter Clinton Portis and former Bengals and Chiefs running back Larry Johnson.

Haha LJ is gonna be PISSED.

I mean hell, that's a nice butt three-headed monster there. I don't think any one of the three of them could carry the load, but together they should make a very nice trifecta.

Ok, not sure I understand this one. I guess they could be assuming Portis gets hurt and LJ gets suspended so then it actually makes sense.

You really can't have too many good running backs. Steady rotation, all are fresh, means more YPC. It's a good thing for the team as long as the egos are kept in check.

A 3 RB system in Washington? Interesting...

There won't be a 3-RB rotation in Washington. One of the three will not make the final 53-man roster.

Shanahan didn't really get along with Portis in Denver did he?

Parker is a great fit but not sure they had to pay that much, who were they bidding against? I guess this will set up another move because thats alot of money to pay 3 backs.

I just don't get it why they paid that much money for a player that no team expressed interest in. I really don't know if there is enough space in the redskins backfield for 3 large egos to co-exist

I see it being Larry Johnson as the feature back with Willie Parker as the third down back.

Unfortunately for Portis, he will either be traded (if someone would take him) or released.

Wow what a battle it's going to be...3 washed up old men fighting over a ball. Running back by geriatric committee. Skins better stock up on Geritol, Depends and Ensure.

Good for Willie. Wishing him the best. He could actually thrive in a Mike Shanahan style offense...

IF he gets enough play time. Will he be their #1 or just be on a rotational basis?

I don't think anyone knows that. I would think that Portis is on his way out having brought Johnson and Parker in...but who knows...Shanahan probably doesn't know either...:icon_cool:
