Brian Dawkins Says Eagles Trading Donovan McNabb Is A Mistake

Discussion in 'Philadelphia Eagles' started by BigBlueBruiser, Apr 5, 2010.

  1. Broncos strong safety Brian Dawkins is a fierce competitor on the football field and a straight shooter off it. So when Dawkins, who played 13 seasons in Philadelphia, was asked on Monday by host Ross Tucker of Sirius NFL Radio about his former Eagles teammate, Donovan McNabb, being traded to the Washington Redskins, Dawkins was his usual, honest self. Ross Tucker asked, “Point blank, are the Eagles making a mistake?†Dawkins didn’t just answer yes, he broke down exactly why the Eagles are making a mistake. “You know what? For me, I would say yes,†Dawkins said. †Let me preface this by saying this: You finally get Donovan the weapons that he’s been asking for, and the fans have been asking for, for many, many years. You finally get D-Jack (DeSean Jackson) outside. [Jeremy] Maclin’s doing a great job. [Brent] Celek has blossomed into one of the best tight ends in the game. You have Jason Avant to move the chains, a physical inside slot guy. So you’re finally getting those things in place and then you trade a guy who is playing at a high level still. That’s what I don’t understand. If you tell me that Donovan has been slipping, he’s not been playing that Pro Bowl-type ball or that MVP-type ball on a consistent basis. Now, I’m not talking about slipping up every once in a while, or not having good games every once in a while, I’m talking about on a consistent basis playing high-caliber football, which he’s still doing, then I could see that. But not this. Not this when you have all those weapons in place and now you don’t allow him to grow with those weapons and have those weapons grow with him so that they can see if this is the mix that could finally get Philadelphia that championship.â€

Those comments aren't at all surprising, but he forgot to add the business side of the game.

    The Eagles are repeating History.
Al Davis (Traded) John Gruden to the Buccaneers and Gruden kicked Al Davis' butt in the Superbowl. I don't care what the situation may be, Never trade your best Player (or Coach) to a contending team because you'll get screwed in the end.

The last two games of the season were not Donovan's fault. Nobody could play well when there o-line was getting raped all around them.

And its gonna be a weekly thing for him in Washington : )

Also, Donovan IMO is at a stage in his career where if he cant step up in the pocket, he wont be able to make the play's. He doesnt have the mobility he had before to make a play out of nothing

I disagree.... he has that ability. He just doesn't use it. He has grown progressively more reticent to do so every year... but just when you think he has lost it he will bust out a big run or escape a hit you never thought he would again and after you get done cheering an awesome play you realize FREAK he should do that more often.

He's also taken too many hits and had too many injuries the past decade. I also dont think he has the legs he did circa 2003/04

He doesn't have the legs to take off and run, but he can still extend plays a little bit. It helps that he's strong and is harder to take down.

Not the same thing, trading from a NFC to an AFC is what most teams should do. No one knew the Raiders would meet the Bucs in the SuperBowl.

The Redskins arent a contending team under any definition. They'll be luck to win 8 games

This is indeed the "Same thing", obviously Al Davis didn't trade within the division but who's to say that the Eagles and Redskins won't meet in the Playoffs? :icon_rolleyes:
