After being voted NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Texans outside linebacker Brian Cushing returned to Los Angeles to work on his college degree and torture himself. Going back to USC to earn a degree in sociology was the easy part, but participating in a workout regimen designed for mixed martial arts by Fox insider Jay Glazer has been testing Cushing's resolve and allowing him to reach a mental and physical level he didn't know he had. “Brian's a beast, an absolute animal,†said Glazer, who has been involved with MMA for 11 years. “Usually, NFL players come to us in March, but Brian started the week after the Super Bowl. That shows the kind of player and person he is, the kind of determination he has. He's a cyborg.†Cushing, who has always been a workout fanatic, closed his rookie season with a variety of injuries that caused him to withdraw from the Pro Bowl but none required surgery, just rehabilitation. Love Cush, great to see him around campus a little longer....we all knew he would end the best LB out of that kick-ass corp. Four linebackers out of one school starting and contributing in the NFL at the same time!!! Woo Hoo!!
Cush is one of the most disciplined individuals you will ever meet....from his strict diet, which includes approved vitamin suppliments and specially prepared meals, no alcohol whatsoever, a workout warrior, and he even managed to attend Mass before every game. The kid is just a winner, finishing school and getting his degree was always part of his plan and one of the reasons he chose USC.
