Is Matt Cassel Ready?

Discussion in 'Kansas City Chiefs' started by Arrowhead4Life, Apr 29, 2010.

  1. It has come upon me that the Chiefs offense has very much improved and added this off-season. In free agency the Chiefs went out and got Thomas Jones, Ryan Lija, Casey Wiegmann, Jeherme Urban, and then the resigning of Chris Chambers. Then in the draft they go and get offensive weapons in Dexter Mccluster who will be our slot it looks like and Jon Asamoah. Cassel has the work ethic like of Tim Tebow and seems to have a great connection with Chambers. Then Bowe if he steps up next season and actually works at it I can see this recieving core being good enough for cassel to make noise. Tony Moeaki and Leornard Pope will be alright at the TE positions but will help more in the run game. Jamal Charles and Thomas Jones will take the load and help cassel so he doesnt have to put the whole team on his shoulders. Cassel Has Proven in the past that with weapons he can do work and be a good QB. I love Cassel to death but he hasnt proven all the way that he belongs with the elite QBs in this league. So I just wanna hear your opinions, Will Cassel have a good year this year or will he prove to not be the QB of kc's future and leave everyone in the league saying he cant start in the NFL?

Well, first I'm going to rephrase your question, if cassel doesn't show a franchise QB in him how long will KC keep him. I think matt is a decent quarter back in the league, however once KC beefs up there line he will no longer have an excuse. My answer to your question-Yes, Matt Cassel is ready. Is the offensive line ready? NO. And until they are, cassel will continue to not have help.

  3. Chiefs O-linemen additions- Ryan Lija (Started both Superbowls the Colts been in the last 5 years), Casey Wiegmann (Past Pro Bowler). Then along with that we have Brian Waters (Multiple Pro Bowler), Brandon Albert (1st round draft pick) and O callaghan or Asamoah.

I always said Cassel will be fine once he has O-line protection and isn't spending most of his time on his back....or running for his life....so we'll see what happens this season. I'm feeling optimistic! :icon_cool:

with that being said, matt cassel is due for a good season. However, if he doesn't produce this year, expect a pissed off fan base in KC!

  6. And forgot to mention to every1 that Cassel now has a damn good offensive coordinator that will be able to spend time with him and go over things unlike haley last year.

  7. Agreed very much, I know that you know how bad it can be when everything is blamed on the QB.

Lilja is a very good pass protecting guard, but like everyone else in Indy, he is not that good at run blocking. Wiegmann upgrades the center position from way below average to slightly below average. If Asamoah plays there how will he fair? Albert is not a LT, he is average at the position. He would be an allstar if he moves to either LG or RT. I wouldn't rely on Chambers. McCluster is a solid talent but will he transition to being only a WR? Plus the Chiefs did nothing to help the front seven of their defense, so Cassel and company will be playing from behind for the most part so teams can pin their ears back and blitz the crap out of Cassel and play the pass because they won't be able to get Charles the ball enought later on in the game. Cassel can be an above average. I don't think it's this year, not with how poor the defense was and will be.

There is simply nothing more aggravating than a dumb media that doesn't know what they are saying. This topic will be interesting to watch this year, don't be shocked if cassel has a coming out party! Just sayin!

  10. Mccluster will play more rules but I was just sayin that the most ive heard was him filling our slot, he is a playmaker overall though. And Pioli is relying on Romeo to bring the best out of players from last years organization. The defense wont have to be on the field 90% of the game anymore because the offense will actually produce this season. So the defense wont drain down as easily as they did last year and will actually be able to get rest. Maybe all this will help the D out and then the addition of Berry and Arenas makes our secondary Good as heck. But the LB's are good but not grade then I agree the D-line isnt great but not horrible and maybe Romeo can get them going and the best out of em since they wont be on the field as much or as long. With all this I see Cassel putting up the stats a little short of the ones he had in New England two years ago but not fully to those stats. I have Confidence Pioli and the Organization know what they are doing and will have the defense at least ok.

Cassel is last years Romo, He puts the media and everybody else to sleep and on hush mode with his play this year!

This will be Cassel's year to prove himself. After this year we'll have paid him the majority of his guaranteed money in his contract. I think he can be good enough.

Is a qb who couldn't see the field in college ready to be a starting NFL qb? I don't see why not. JaMarcus Russell is a starting qb and he is pure garbage. This is why I hate the current trend of giving a player who has 1 decent year a huge contract. And he had the Pats team to help him with that year. Come on folks, be for real. If Cassell was in Cleveland or Detroit( no offense team fans) would he have done as good? I doubt it. This league rewards players for 1 good season. But then again they can do that because the contracts are not guarenteed. Most of the time a player has 1 good year and gets a huge contract he flames out soon after and the team is set back years in the process. Is Cassell a good qb? Don't know and really it doesn't matter. He is rich and for someone who didn't play competitive football since high school he did all right.

He's definitely ready, we just have to wait and see how much the rest of the O has gelled on the field.

    Short answer - No.

    Long answer - Noooooooooooooooooooo.

I've never been a Cassel fan. From what I've seen out of him, the only differences between him and Tyler Thigpen are 3 inches and $60Million.

  16. The only difference between Cassel and Hasselbeck is Cassel can stay healthy and wouldnt choke like hasselbeck in the SB or lose to a Rapist. We beat steelers this year hmm did you in the superbowl? No. Cassel lead his team to victory against the steelers, did yours noooooooooooo!

Ummmmm....I don't really like Hasselbeck. Well done for the comeback though.

You can't really compare them anyway, Hass HAS been successful in the NFL over a long period of time (not anymore, but hey).

I also like how you didn't defend Cassel vs Thigpen. The main point of my post. Yay.
