The St. Louis Rams opened contract negotiations with rookie quarterback Sam Bradford's agent Friday, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora and Michael Lombardi confirmed. However, a team official told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that a deal with the No. 1 overall draft pick isn't expected to come soon. Speculation has been rampant that Bradford could receive up to $50 million in guaranteed money -- much more than the $41.7 million that last year's No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Matthew Stafford, was given by the Detroit Lions. According to the Post-Dispatch, agent Tom Condon is representing Bradford and chief operating officer Kevin Demoff is negotiating for the Rams. The Rams are scheduled to open training camp July 28, but Bradford has previously said he expects to be under contract by then. "At this point right now, (Condon) hasn't given me any indication that there's going to be any problems getting a contract done," Bradford told NFL.com's Steve Wyche last month at the NFL Rookie Symposium. "I expect to be in camp, on time." Source: NFL.com
Ridiculous. Stafford is a MUCH better QB than Bradford. To think he deserves that much money is absurd. Honestly, I think Bradford is more on the Jamarcus side than the Stafford side. I'm sure he'll be real serviceable but I don't think he's 50 Million serviceable.
Not that I don't think he is/will be a good QB, but I don't think he's worth the 50 million he wants. Maybe the Jamarcus side was over-stating. More like Ty Detmer or Charlie Batch
I see Bradford's upside equal to that of Chad Pennington. Good but nothing more. Not 50 million worth.
Thank you for putting into comparable words what I was trying. I honestly don't think he's as intelligent as Pennington. I always thought Bradford was over-rated, but we shall see. Either way I think we all agree that he's not worth 50 million.
Another reason to add why Suh should have been the pick. I just hope the Rams use the JaMarcus Russell example of keeping that figure as close to Stafford's amount as possible. Although I can see our front office giving them what they want to get him into camp.
Who the heck says each guy gets more than the one before? This is so stupid, rookie wage scale please. I'm just happy my team hasn't been unlucky enough to get the #1 overall recently with this bullcrap going on.
