Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant said he's in training camp to catch passes, not carry somebody else's shoulder pads after practice. When wideout Roy Williams handed his pads to Bryant on Sunday after the Cowboys' morning session, the first-round draft pick didn't carry them. Veteran players traditionally hand their pads to a rookie after practice. "I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player's pads," Bryant said. "If I was a free agent, it would still be the same thing." Williams said every rookie has go to through such rituals during their first NFL season. He said he carried pads and paid for meals when he was a rookie for the Detroit Lions in 2004. "No matter if you're a No. 1 pick or the 7,000th pick, you've still got to do something when you're a rookie," Williams said.

He was doing everything right up until this point. Then again the biggest knock on him is that he is in fact stupid.

Pick your battles, avoid the ones that are going to cause a crapstorm.

And Roy......keep this crap in house. No reason this should have gotten out

To me it just comes off as a lack of respect for the game and the men who came before him.

It surprises me how many people are defending him (even on the Giants forum) saying crap like "I wouldn't do that either", "who would want to carry Roy WIlliams pads" (who's pads is not the point), "stupid tradition"...

imo these people just don't get it. ALL players go through this crap. It's innocent hazing... jsut put in a little snitch work and show respect.

Hey Roy, maybe if you stop worrying about stupid things like this you would play better and not lose your job to a rookie? Just a thought...

There will be retribution. But, as long as a story doesn't come out next year saying he's making rookies carry his pads, I'm fine with it. I think his 1st 1000 yard season and snitching about his contract sometime in the next 2 or 3 years seems more likely at this point.

the blame is all on Roy Williams who had to call attention to this in front of the team, coaches, media etc., he's an over-the-hill butt hurt butthole who IMO just signed his outgoing papers...heck him...

Pretty stupid. Not knocking him cause he's a Cowboy, but I mean it's rituals, just do it. Might suck, but hey, I'm sure he'll want to have fun with the rookies next season.

Oh well, I'm sure they'll get him some how, tie him up to the post, who knows.

You HAVE to pay your dues. And to pull this crap on the first day? Wouldn't be surprised if he walked out to the parking lot one afternoon and his car was gone. Punk butt MF'er thinks he better then the game and the men who played before him.

I am kinda torn on this.. Part of me says "it is part of the game, and part of what brings teams closer together." Then part of me is on Dez's side as well.. But all I have to say is, "If I see Dez haze just ONE rookie next year I hope he gets clowned on HARD!". And really who gives a heck who wanted him to carry the pads, let it be the kicker... It doesn't matter.. Everyone says "Roy didn't earn this or that".. Who really cares, it is what it is.. Just go with the flow, and be a good sport about it. His team will be stronger because of it. my .02

One other thing... Remember Parcells was really big on this kind of thing. He had Ware, Spencer and Newman all get his water their rookie year. They got his water for him all training camp. Parcells said it gave the first round guys a little humility. And I agree..
