This is the kind of ball they obviously need to play to get back in the hunt...

  2. DawkinsINT

    DawkinsINT Tebow free since 9/5/2015.

Hopefully that was just nerves that led Dom to dive for that ball in the 9th. Great debut otherwise.

there was zero chance the phillies were going to trade brown. that's why all the other prospects but him went in the lee and halladay trades. well he sure proved the phils to be right in his 1st game.

wonder if werth gave his replacement any words of wisdom ? :icon_cool:

    **********Automerged Doublepost**********

i am hearing it's happ, a class A 1st baseman singleton and someone else - gilles or mays maybe.

awaiting oswalt to waive the no trade clause.

edit: had to add this. randy miller said on wip that one of the reasons oswalt is wary of coming here is because brett myers doesnt like dubee and is trying to talk oswalt into not going to philly by saying its a bad scene.

LMAO - myers is still all butt hurt over not being re-signed.

I like Happ and would hate to see him go, but it would be worth it for another title.

hearing different minor leaguers being mentioned left and right.

all i know is, assuming oswalt stays healthy:

halladay - hamels - oswalt = go heck yourselves yankees.

yeah take the comp picks when he leaves, we need him to win another title this year.

jason stark is stating oswalt ok'd the deal.

    **********Automerged Doublepost**********

Happ, Vance Worley and Anthony Gose sent to Houston for Roy Oswalt and $11 million. Oswalt plans to waive his no trade clause later today per Jayson Stark.

posted this in the oswalt thread, but here goes:

astros pay 11 mill of the 23 million owed to him, his buyout from the team is increased and a mutual option for next year.

the outfielder we traded - anthony gose, was immediately turned around and traded to toronto for brett wallace, dude had a ton of steals last year, but has been caught almost as many times he's actually stolen a base this year

the infielder we traded - jonathan villar - has yet to turn on the offense, but is also a tools guy (which the phillies system is loaded with) and is also speedy, but has a whopping 42 errors this season at the A league blueclaws at SS.

I wanted Haren, but oswalt should definitely help our starting rotation, now we just need another right handed bat and a solid reliever and we will be ready to make another run. There has been talk of Phillies going after the league HR leader Jose Bautista and he would immediately add that righty bat that we would need. Also, it would be great insurance in case Rollins just can't get it together health wise this year.

Bautista would be huge. I saw that they were interested in him last night as well. He'd be able to fill a lot of holes...2nd, 3rd, OF...

I'm not sure I'd put a ton of stock in him hitting a crapload of HR's next season, but he's in the midst of a career year. It'll work for 2010...

at CPB, he would kill it and give us another righty in a lineup of lefties, werth batting right was the main reason I was sure the Phillies wouldn't trade him. The Phillies have scouted something like 8 of the last 9 blue jays games.

Where have the Bautista rumors been coming from?

  15. 86WARD

    86WARD -

They've definitely been scouting him 8 out of 9 games. They're obviously very interested. It'd be nice if they pull that off...

yeah, like I posted, they have been scouting the jays a lot lately and with a need for a big right bat, it would be sweet.

Freaking Phillies almost blow it again in the ninth, huge double play after walking the bases loaded with 1 out. Lidge looked Great in the 10th, maybe he is coming around.

Nice easy 11th inning. First time I remember valdez coming through in the clutch.

    2 1/2 games out

  17. 86WARD

Dave Hollins was scouting him and at the same time Beattie has been scouting the Phillies against the Cardinals and the Rockies. The Jays are supposedly looking for players with less than 3 years service.

  18. DawkinsINT

    DawkinsINT Tebow free since 9/5/2015.

Oh, ok. Thought perhaps there were rumors of talks with the Jays besides scouting.

we have one of the deepest single A set of players tradeable in the league. I think we can get this done.

Ok, so no actual talks with the Blue Jays confirmed as I thought.
