Jay Cutler said Thursday that members of the Chicago Bears are aware that they are likely playing this season for Lovie Smith's job. There is heavy pressure for Smith to succeed, coming off a 7-9 season and failing to make the playoffs the last three seasons. Heading into his second season in Chicago, Cutler says the players all feel that pressure. To quote Cutler, "Lovie is one of the best coaches I've been around, and I know that everyone on this team has a great amount of respect for him as he does for us. I know that some of the guys who have been here longer than me definitely have a lot of ties with him and want to go out there for him and play well. You never know what's going to happen this year, if we don't go out and perform, if Lovie is to stay or not. So, that's definitely a question that -- I'm sure -- is in the back of everyone else's mind. But we can't worry about it. We have to play hard, and if we do that, everything else will take care of itself." In May, Bears legend Gale Sayers also said that Smith "would likely be gone" if he didn't revive the team this season. Source: USA Today
Major problems when a team looks for this kind of motivation especially when an equal share rests squarely on the players' shoulders for helping put LS in this predicament. Better they should just worry about saving their own jobs. Besides, LS, no matter how nice a guy he is (paging twinky Jauron...), is responsible for his portion along with JA. Buckle your chin strap, get your assignment done, & stop with all the feel good drama, heckers...:icon_rolleyes:
*sigh* 145 posts, 183 rep points. Not too shabby...for the moment. Time for you to make the choice to comment when you actually have a point based on experience than throwing out drivel like that, Starkiller. I'll work with you if you make the effort...
Dude, you're a Chitcago fan. No wonder you're complaining. My point is that they haven't made it to the playoffs since Fumble-saurus Rex took them to the Super Bowl. I will admit that they were good that year, until the afore-mentioned Fumble-saurus Rex fumbled the damn snap. **********Automerged Doublepost********** And they were still decent despite him. But decent is never enough to beat the Indianapolis Colts.
With Urlacher back the D will be a lot better this years and who knows maybe it will actually stop some drives this year. You just don't know what you are going to get with Cutler. I personally do not care for him at all but he is Da Bears best qb at this point so what choice do they or we have? I really hope LeFevour contends for the backup qb job because I really want to see him in a game this year. As for Lovie, looks like his magic is gone. I wouldn't be opposed to having Mike Martz as our head coach after this season. Let's see how he and Cutler get along this season.
We all saw what he did with the Rams. (Greatest Show on Turf) **********Automerged Doublepost********** Even though, and I think we all agree, Jay Cutler is no Kurt Warner.
