The Dallas Cowboys reached a deal Friday to trade wide receiver Patrick Crayton to the San Diego Chargers, according to Crayton's agent Fred Lyles. Crayton confirmed to ESPN that he'd been traded to the Chargers in exchange for a seventh-round pick. Crayton, who was drafted in the seventh round out of Northwestern Oklahoma State by the Cowboys in 2004, caught 196 passes for 2,888 yards and 23 touchdowns in 82 games -- including 33 starts. The reciever had sought a release following April's NFL draft -- when the Cowboys selected Dez Bryant in the first round -- and again after the Cowboys' final preseason game on Thursday. I have a feeling the Cowboys are going to regret this deal, Jerry Jones couldn't let his ego take a hit but Roy Williams should have been the one to pack up and go. If the Cowboys get to the playoffs they are going to kick themselves because Crayton isn't there.
For a 7th Rounder it's great value, but I agree, he's not going to make opposing defensive co-ordinators crap themselves.
I don't know. I think I might rather have Roy Williams. The difference between them is not huge. The biggest difference is nobody has been dumb enough to think Crayton is a number 1. I really think Roy gets alot of flack for Jerry Jones just being stupid and thinking he was more then he is.
For the value....it's a good deal. With the potential loss of Vincent Jackson and with the additions of Crayton & Ryan Mathews....the Chargers could lean more towards the run this season. Crayton is a solid bet for 55-65 catches for 750-900 yards and 4-7 touchdowns this season.
Good for the value...Crayton/Williams...production wise, same difference. Hopefully for the Chargers sake, they aren't thinking this is protection for when Jackson leaves...
Are we talking about the same Crayton that dropped every pass thrown to him in the play-offs? Haven't got over that drop against the Giants in '07. I'm glad he's gone. I agree with RW having to go, though. I'd go to war with Austin, Bryant, Hurd, and Ogletree.
The move made by Dallas was a sympathy move for Crayton. Crayton wanted to go to a team that had a chance to win. And I am willing to bet there were better offers on the table but because Crayton has been a good teammate and WR for us, Jerry traded him to a place he could succeed. I for one agree with the move. I am predicting our WR's will have a great year. Even ROY!! (compared to last year at least) lol
Nah, I'll keep him around for spot starts. I'm not dumb enough to start him weekly...come on Mike Ox...who is you talkin to? :icon_cheesygrin:
Crayton is practically worthless for FF. As a starter He will either get you 5 points consistently, and then get you 20 twice a year
Crayton is garbage. He couldn't learn the cowboys routes in 6 years, what makes anyone think he'll learn the chargers in 6 days
a big name wide receiver aint crap if you can't protect river's blind side....they are trying to replace a probowl LT with brandyn dombrowski
