The Ravens are trying to trade wide receiver Mark Clayton, according to the Carroll County Times' Aaron Wilson. This report makes plenty of sense following the team's acquisition of T.J. Houshmandzadeh today. Unfortunately, Clayton is a career underachiever who also has trouble staying healthy, so he doesn't figure to draw much interest. Expect him to be dropped. Source: RotoTimes
This just freaking had to happen didn't it? We will take anyone's freaking waste if it's cheap enough.
Clayton is a solid receiver. Not a starter, but a good No. 3, which for the Rams, means a great No. 2.
I think we made the wrong move trading him. Clayton at this stage of his career is better - and younger - than Houshmandzadeh and doesn't have an attitude problem. He beat out Stallworth for the No. 3 job and he knows the playbook. I was looking forward to his season. He hasn't lived up to his first round status but he's shown flashes and really emerged as a good No. 3. I don't have a problem with the Houshmandzadeh signing per se, but coupled with dumping Clayton, I do. Clayton > Houshmandzadeh. Clayton > Houshmandzadeh + late round pick? I don't know. Why couldn't we keep both of them and cut Reed or Smith? Stallworth'll be back after 7 weeks; why do we even need another receiver - who doesn't know the playbook?
We are loaded with "good No.3 receivers", infact, the whole WR corp are slot recievers (Aside from Burton & Curry, whom both are on the very edge of the roster). I'm sick of the franchise bringing mediocrity and any Giants backup that's on the street.
