Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid said Wednesday his move to Michael Vick as the team's starting QB is intended to be permanent. But Reid refused to say if deposed starter Kevin Kolb was guaranteed to remain on the roster for the rest of the year. "I didn't appoint (Vick) for one week," Reid said, via Philly.com. "That's not what I did." The coach shocked the league on Tuesday night when he named Vick the starter and said his "accelerated play" had surpassed Kolb while the latter missed part of two games with a concussion. It left Kolb back on the bench, despite spending five months preparing to be the Eagles' starter after the team traded Donovan McNabb. Kolb said Wednesday that he was disappointed by accepting of the decision, and was confident he would rebound to become a starter again. "I want to be out there," Kolb said, via Philly.com. "I feel like I'm a starter in this league but at the same time I'm a team player, I want to do what's best for our team and do what I can for Mike. "Again, it's tough, because I feel like I can be out there and I'm ready now, but Andy always takes the best interests of the team first and he always takes the best interests of his players, too."

well, of course they want to trade him. you can't pay a back-up QB $12 million a year ................. the eagles stepped all over their rods when they extended kolb for 2011 and guaranteed it. now they're trying to get out of it.

the horrible o-line forced the eagles to extend kolb and guarantee it all?

regardless of why they flip-flopped and have now gone with vick indefinitely, they can't afford to pay a guy $12m/yr to sit on the bench. you would agree with THAT, right?

what ? first the contract is not 100% guaranteed. second the team did that well before the reality of the oline set in. point being if the line could protect this wouldnt be an issue. we all saw what kolb could do last year with protection and thats what prompted the team to sign kevin long term.

but whatever, trade kolb. it further proves my opinion that reid is a baffoon and hopefully when the eagles stil fail against better competition the front office will dump fatty.

total disaster of a team right now.

the eagles dont even know what a bad oline really is.

kolb has no trade value, especially with that salary

History has proven that Vick is at his best with a crap O-Line in front of him, so that must count for something...right?

Either way, this has turned into a really embarrasing situation for Philly, especially if McNabb leads Washington to 1st in the NFC East.

Let the year play out, you're going to owe both of them anyway. Best case scenario: Vick plays lights out, boosts his stock and you can offer him as trade bait during the offseason. You move him out, get your picks, and replace Vick with Kolb as your starter, and Kafka as your #2.

I was okay with hearing that Vick was named the starter for week 3, but I find two significant heck-ups in what Reid and co. did here:

    1. Don't say you essentially appointed Vick the starter indefinitely. That's freaking stupid. Because if he struggles badly for two weeks, you DAMN WELL KNOW you're putting Kolb in the game. You say 'Vick has the hot hand right now and we are going to ride it out for the time being.'

    2. How is it that Reid had no freaking problem saying that 'McNabb is our guy, McNabb is our guy' and then trade him shortly after, but he can't say that for Kolb? WTF? Kolb literally is the future of this team and he can't back him?

There has to be something going on behind the scenes that we don't know about...

I don't buy that there is something going on behind the scenes. It certainly sounds like there is and the evidence would point towards that, but I don't see that happening. I simply think that Reid is going with Vick until further notice. Is it possible that Vick is definitely a better option behind the crapty O-Line the Eagles have right now and the Eagles realize that maybe they have a shot in the NFC with Vick more so than with Kolb with all the under-achieving teams in the NFC right now? Just thinking out loud...

Where does BRETT FAVRE fit in all of this? Could he be the starter next year? Or coach?

Kolb's career in Philly is over. He was promised and backed and then had the rug pulled out from under him. I would smash a bottle on reid's face if I was him. You'll get the whole story once he gets to his new team, but one thing is certain, he will never play for a Reid led Eagles team ever.

So he does the same thing with McNabb but the reaction is good riddance? But he does it with Kolb and he deserves to have a bottle smashed over his face? This was hecked from day 1 when they traded McNabb. Again, should've let McNabb played out his last year and let him walk.

But as for Kolb, he played good against a bad Chiefs team and over played against the Saints. Bottom line, the Front Office hecked this one up. Vick gives the team the best chance to win because he can make things happen. Kolb looked lost week 1 and ended up getting JACKED UP. If you can get anything for Kolb, do it. He's making a ton and I think that Vick could potentially give this team a few years. Hey, crazy idea! Terrelle Pryor goes pro and sits behind Vick for 2 years and then we go from there. Could be a worse idea.

Bottom line, drafting Kolb as early as they did was stupid. They should've taken Woodley right there and Kolb probably would've been available later on. This whole thing just makes this team look bad. Hopefully something gives here.
