Five Teams Interested In Ex-Bills QB Trent Edwards?

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Sep 28, 2010.

  1. Chan Gailey needed to see Ryan Fitzpatrick put some life into Buffalo's anemic offense just once before deciding Trent Edwards was expendable. "After the way that Fitz played yesterday, I feel very confident about the direction we're going," Buffalo's first-year coach said Monday, a day after the Bills (0-3) were beaten 38-30 by the New England Patriots. "Trent did the best he could, and he's a great young man and I wish him the best." The Bills waived Edwards in a surprising move Monday, a few weeks after Gailey said he saw "light at the end of the tunnel" with Edwards as his starter. To take Edwards' roster spot, the Bills plan to re-sign quarterback Levi Brown, whom they released this summer, a league source told Schefter. Two NFL executives told ESPN's Chris Mortensen they believe Edwards will be claimed on waivers by 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks are among the teams expected to put in a claim.

If that's the case, the Chiefs would get him because since he placed on waivers before 9/28/10, the claims go in order of 2009 record, not 2010, regardless of head-to-head, as PFT explains.

Patriots are rumored to have an interest as well...

  4. Carolina would be awarded Edwards as a result if they indeed submitted a claim. The Panthers are 0-3. He would be the No. 2 behind Jimmy Clausen while Matt Moore still recovers from sustaining a concussion opening day.

San Francisco is also 0-3......interesting to see if they would put in a claim.

I just saw them listed in the article after I took a guess.

  6. Correct.....Jacksonville just claimed him.

A surprise one if you ask me but he is an upgrade over Todd Bouman as Garrard's back-up.

Hell, he's an upgrade over David Garrard! Jacksonville sucks. They need to disband the team and let the players hit free agency. That way, the players can actually go out and accomplish something.

  8. Very bold statement considering Edwards lost his job to Ryan Fitzpatrick.
