After most of week 5 (not including tonight's game) Periodically during the season, I will post wide receiver/tight end rankings based on a mathematical formula that includes per game receptions, td's, yards, yac, and deducts for fumbles and dropped passes. furthermore, a receiver's production is adjusted based upon how prolific his team's passing offense is. Some 'Big Name' Receivers missing from this list include Randy Moss and both Steve Smith's due to their lack of production this season. Yea, and he's one of those players that is hard to hate because I respect his game so much. There is only 3 to 5 receivers on that entire list that I would take before Austin. Same with Nicks... 3-5 receivers. I love what he is becoming. Check it compared to one of the greats. Nicks has often been compared to Irvin. Don't rush it. Just let it happen.
Always liked Nicks. Though he was the best WR in that draft. If Barden becomes anything, you guys have an interesting WR set. You can play Smith outside or in the slot. Im thinking once Barden is ready for sub packages, you be seeing Smith outside in base sets, with Manningham and Barden outside and Smith and Barden in the slot in 3/4 WR sets
Austin's been out of his mind. A few more TD's and a couple more Cowboy wins and he'd be a 1st quarter of the season MVP candidate Dudes on pace for 125 catchs and 1,900 yards **********Automerged Doublepost********** I really liked Barden coming out, I wanted him in the third instead of Williams. He's raw, but he has a crapload of talent. He's the type of WR that isnt gonna do much the first two years
Barden has raw talent. He's tall and has good hands. His problem is he has problems running routes. My wildcard is Manningham. If this guy can just catch not only those spectacular catches but just normal catches, he could be better than both Smith and Nicks. He has that home run threat ability like Desaun Jackson but doesn't have his consistency. I would refrain from putting Nicks as a Top 5 right now. As much as I would love that, the season is still young. You know what, Teams are going to start rolling double coverage on Nicks and then Smith and Manningham are just going to keep going off. And you have a very underrated Kevin Boss running out there too. The Giants, IMO, without question, have the best WR corp in the NFL. The Giants have the possesion reciever in Smith, the possesion/yards after the catch guy in Nicks and the homerun threat in Manningham. And all of this is just going to make Ahmad Bradshaw even better. Bradshaw on those Westbrook like screens......
why are we discussing the Giants receivers with such great detail all of a sudden. Don't get me wrong I think the Giants have good receivers, easily the 2nd best group of Receivers within the division but remind me again why were talking about them. DeSean Jackson is consistent? that's news to me.
Never been a big Manningham fan. I think he's a leathal subpackage guy, but not consistant enough to be a real slot WR. I think he is too easily defendable to be a legit starting WR. I think he would make a killing in a Martz offense with 4 WR's. Or even in NOLA **********Automerged Doublepost********** Just the way the wind blows IMO, Jackson is no more then a #2 WR. He's never gonna be a guy you feed the ball too A gripe i have with this list is that is is hard to put guys like Collie up against guys like White and Austin because of different roles. #1 WR' are going to face tougher assignments and get more attention from defense's
I think he can be consistant by virtue of playing time..,he had 822 yds recieving last year. So there is a ton of potential there. But his consistency has got to get better, He already has way to many dropped or tipped balls this year.
I just dont think he is that talented. He just isnt that good to me. I think thats where his inconsistancy comes from, he simply isnt good enough to beat starting CB on a gamely basis. Just my take on him going back to UM. I think in the NFL he is a guy that has to be accounted for, and he'll win you a ball game or two a year, but never going to be game in game out
Addressing 2 conversations in this thread: 1) Desean Jackson is one of the most INconsistent receivers in this league. That's what really holds him back from being an elite receiver. He will disappear for an entire game. Elite receivers don't disappear as often as jackson does. 2) For those that think Nicks should be top 5 in this formula, his dropped passes and pathetic yac are what is pushing him down these rankings. If he even had average yac and a couple less drops, he WOULD be top 5. however, dude is getting no yac and is dropping too many passes. THAT does not make a great receiver gentlemen. He has some things to work on to become elite.
If Moeaki keeps having big games, it may be tempting to put him in. He's, easily, the Chiefs best receiver, though that's not saying much.
i can't put them in on my own. the receivers have to put up the numbers to get into the top 50. but, actually, moeaki is sniffing the top 50. he's #56 right now.
I figured that much, I thought I'd say something because I saw Tony Gonzalez in there and I know Moeaki is putting up numbers that are similar.
