Chances are you had no idea a boxer from Brooklyn was challenging for the heavyweight title on Saturday in Germany. That's OK. It's no secret the days when the heavyweight championship of the world was regarded as the greatest prize in sports are a sepia-toned memory, as quaint as transistor radios, corner malt shops and leaving the front door unlocked after sundown. But if Saturday's showdown between New York's Shannon Briggs and Vitali Klitschko could fly any further under the radar in the United States, it'd be befellows with Jimmy Hoffa. Yeah, just Americans don't do.... :icon_cheesygrin: Briggs is a knockouter too. Wonder what he can do tonight?
Vitali has to be careful in the early rounds. From what I saw of Briggs, he starts like a raging bull **********Automerged Doublepost********** Klitscho Bell is ringing. Are you ready to rumble? **********Automerged Doublepost********** lol, I thought he was going to knockVitali out within 30 seconds? Briggs with a slow start, 1st round goes to Klitschko **********Automerged Doublepost********** Briggs steped up in round 2, but this one should go to Klitschko too Whatch your guard Vitali **********Automerged Doublepost********** Close round, let's see what round 4 will bring us **********Automerged Doublepost********** This turns out to be a nice fight **********Automerged Doublepost********** Briggs took some nice fists frokm Klitschko, but didn't show any impact **********Automerged Doublepost********** Vitali dominated the last 2 rounds, Briggs became his puncing bag, but still isn't going down Round 7... **********Automerged Doublepost********** The bell saved Briggs here from a KO This guy is a beast, any other boxer would already be knocked out **********Automerged Doublepost********** c'mon, Briggs is almost defenseless, stopp that fight **********Automerged Doublepost********** Klitschko isn't even fighting full power anymore and still dominate the fight Final round....
Briggs in a heavyweight title match? I couldn't get excited for this one. He's just a bad act being rehashed simply because the heavyweight division is a joke. Who is there that anyone can get excited about?
No knockout in the fight of the knockouter. Klitschko dominated the fight and Briggs locked like his plan was to win with a lucky punch **********Automerged Doublepost********** Next to the Klitschkos? NOBODY!
Klitschko vs Klitschko would be about the only thing right now that would make me go out of my way to watch a heavyweight fight. We all know though....that 'ain't gonna happen.
Because it's about the only fight that would generate the hype a heavyweight champion deserves to get.
The hype over here is great, fights are sold out in a couple hours and the Klitschko Bros. can only loose, fighting each other. I even doubt that it will draw much attention at the US, as long as no American fighter is involved. Vitalis titles will be vacant soon anyway. He'll turn 40 next year and I can see him retire in the near future
The differnence in paychecks between a hyped fight in Germany and a hyped fight in the Germany and the US is RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! They are freaking morons and are 2/3rds of boxing's biggest problems right now.
So the problem that nobody else is boxing on thier level is their fault? k, let's assume they fight each other. We have one hyped fight in the US, but what will be after that? One of the Klitschkos will still dominate the heavyweight and the other end up as looser. It's no winning situation for the Klitschkos. They ain't morons, they are smart businessmen....
Smart businessmen? Your nuts. If they fight each other....they both will make the biggest paydays of their careers by far..and if they make it a good fight will probably get 2 huge paydays with a rematch and it's possible some of those folks will stick around for more of their fights after. Would it restore heavy weight boxing to it's former glory? Of course not? Would it be a step in the right direction...absolutely.
Let's assume Vitali win this fight. As I stated above, he'll turn 40 next year and prolly will retire. So all titles will be vacant at once. If Wladimir win, whole America will say the fight was decided before it even started, just to unite all titles on the younger brother. Beside that, they have a huge market value at Europe outside the ring. If one end up loosing, the value will drop. You see, it won't be a winning situation for the Klitschko Bros. For the payday, I have no idea how huge the paycheck will be, since they both boxing for the same promoter, etc. Plus they are already that freaking rich, money isn't all they're boxing for....
