Joe Theismann Says Brad Childress Should "Man Up" And Bench Brett Favre

Discussion in 'Minnesota Vikings' started by BigBlueBruiser, Oct 26, 2010.

  1. Brad Childress must step in and save Brett Favre -- and his Minnesota Vikings teammates -- from himself, former NFL QB Joe Theismann said Monday. Theismann, an analyst for the NFL Network, said on the network's Around the League show that Favre, 41, doesn't understand how destructive the deterioration of his on-field abilities have become to his team. Favre has two fractures in his left foot and his status for Sunday's game at New England is uncertain -- as it the state of his NFL-record 291 straight starts. The former Super Bowl winner said Favre should not play next week and that the team would be better served with backup Tarvaris Jackson playing. To do that, he said, Childress must take the decision out of Favre's hands. "Sooner or later, somebody has to make a decision that's in authority with the Minnesota Vikings to say, 'Brett, sit down,' " Theismann said. "This was always my question: I'm tired of (kowtowing) to the king. It's not Brett Favre's organization. And Brad Childress has to man up and make a decision that's good for the 52 other guys that dress."
