The Minnesota Vikings officially placed disgruntled wide receiver Randy Moss on waivers Tuesday afternoon, NFL Network insider Jason LaCanfora confirmed. Teams will now have until 4 p.m. ET Wednesday to make a claim. Moss is owed roughly $3 million in salary if he is claimed. If he goes unclaimed, then the Vikings are responsible for his full salary and the six-time Pro Bowl pick would become an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with any club. Contrary to some reports, some people in the Vikings front office knew head coach Brad Childress intended to waive Moss, but word might not have trickled up to team owner Zygi Wilf, NFL.com insider Steve Wyche reported, according to a team source. Childress has control over team personnel decisions for the 53-man roster. Source: NFL.com
I can't see any team freaking with him, without his okay or you get nothing for your money. The hecker quit on the only team he was happy at, New England. I'd be surprised if there are many teams that want him, with his baggage.
I remember Randy Moss back in 2001 saying he only plays when he wants to. Now, i'm well aware players now of days are playing more so for the money then for the love of the game BUT thats NOT the attitude to have and still has that attitude today. Thats like me telling my boss at work "I only work when I want to", my butt would be out the door like 1-2-3. As a Bears fan, the part of me that wants to see the Bears take a chance on Moss is the fact that he is a talanted WR when he does show up and play. However though, the fact that he will quit on ya makes me want to see the Bears take a pass on Moss. All and all, i'm on the fence about this. In reality though, I don't see Moss ending up in Chicago.
i agree with dabears and topdawg. this decision for G.M.'s is not about money or talent. What they are asking themselves today before deciding to make a claim is, "Can we get Moss's head straight, get him focused and motivated, so that he is an asset instead of a liability?" THAT is a tough decision. How do they know if they can get Moss straight? It's an impossible answer and very risky decision.
To top it all off, I honestly don't think the Pats need Randy Moss. They've won before without him, and they can still win without him now. It's not hard to tell whether or not Moss is giving it his all when he runs his routes. The highlights i've seen on espn the last few days of him running routes is a perfect example. Obviously Moss was never taught growing up to NEVER half butt anything.
If Moss ends up back with the Pats, cool. I'm going to the Bears-Pats game December 12th. If Moss is back with the Pats, I look foward to watching Charles Tillman make Randy Moss his snitch AGAIN.
