Hines Ward is well aware of the crackdown by the NFL on helmet-to-helmet hits. He has watched the video produced by the league on what is legal and what is a fineable offense. After getting knocked out of Sunday's game by Patriots safety Patrick Chung with an apparent helmet-to-helmet hit, Ward wondered Wednesday why Chung has yet to hear from the league about a fine. "I was falling down and I wasn't expecting to get hit," Ward said. "He hit me, and that is what caused the head/neck or whatever you guys want to call it. I don't know what the league wants. It is what it is. It was helmet to helmet, and I thought that is what usually causes a fine. I am not going to sit there and worry about if the guy got fined or not." Chung was not fined by the league as of yesterday, but the NFL usually doesn't make fines known to public until Friday. Source: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
this is pretty crapty imo.... players start asking the league for helmet to helmet fines? seems like a cat thing to do. last time a checked hines ward was a football player, and a bad butt guy who would break your jaw.... now he wants players to get fined for hits? i hope james harrison has something to say about this. or harrison jacks him up in practice for making such a stupid comment. players wanting players to get fined = the downfall todays heck you goes to hines ward
When I saw the hit, it really didn't look bad at all. It looked like Chung hit him standing up, and never lowered the helmet. I'll have to take a look at it again, but you know the fine happy NFL sure looked at it closely.
i thought ward had been one of the guys who was staunchly against the crackdown by the league because he fancies himself one of the 'real men' of the league? wtf?
He said he wasn't gonna sit down and worry about it. I highly doubt he said this on his own free will, he was likely asked and it was taken out of context would be my guess.
lol your hate for the Steelers is amusing, you always wait for a Steelers thread and no matter the topic you're sure to post something. Envy is a beautiful thing.
I have a feeling you're right, this doesn't seem like a natural comment that would come straight from Ward.
Wallace got yards once the Patriots switched to a prevent defense and the game was out of reach, big deal.
ive been critical of wallace being a cat and going down right away....things that holmes did not ever do. but when ward went out wallace became a man, he was fighting for every yard, refusing to go down, going across the middle and even blocking which he doesnt do well at all. i honestly cant believe ward would snitch about that hit, he even said it was clean at first.
I believe Wallace is the real deal as well, but it had nothing to do with Ward going down. The offense just finally opened up the playbook, we could run those plays any time but dumbheck Arians doesn't give a crap.
lol...funny because who it's coming from. He's obviously indirectly saying if everyone else is getting fined, why not Chung. Like everyone else in the league and on this board, he's calling the league out on their consistency. Having said that, just worry about Oakland. Don't worry about who's getting fined.
Wallace was the real deal last year and he is doing exactly what we all wanted that clown named Limas to do. Take over the world. Whether Ward is there or not, it comes down to the garbage that Arians is calling. The team is better off with Ward in there right now than with him on the sideline concussed. Sanders has super potential as well, he's a rookie and he's making rookie mistakes that at times are hurting the passing game. It will take him some time. I'm hoping in 2012, that Ward is retired and Sanders is taking that roster spot and literally running with it...
I was happy that in the 2nd half in 2 wide sets it was Wallace and Sanders and not Randle El, I'm actually shocked the Steelers made such a obvious decision.
