Giants To Workout Ex-Buccaneers WR Michael Clayton

  1. A league source tells Pro Football Talk that the Giants will be bringing in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and current UFL Nighthawks wide receiver Michael Clayton for a workout. Steve Smith is out at least until December due to a pectoral injury and fellow starting receiver Hakeem Nicks is out for approximately three weeks with compartment syndrome, which can lead to muscle and nerve damage if not treated immediately. Clayton was a former first round draft pick by the Buccaneers in 2004 and started 11 games for Tampa in 2009. Last week, the UFL’s first-ever controversy arose when word surfaced that the league plans to enforce the $150,000 “transfer feeâ€￾ through February 2011 for any player signed to an active NFL roster over the balance of the NFL season. It remains to be seen if the fee will either be paid by the Giants or by Clayton himself.

  2. It appears were scraping towards the bottom on this.....

Clayton is a superb blocker but he fell off the wayside after his excellent rookie season six years ago.

This better be $150,000 well spent for our sake.....
