The National Football League is looking into an independent drug test taken by Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams after his arrest Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence. "All drug testing of players is governed by the league's policies and clubs are not authorized to require or facilitate testing outside of the provisions of those policies," said Greg Aiello, the NFL's Senior Vice President of Public Relations. "The matter is under review." Williams was arrested at 2:48 a.m. Friday at U.S. 301 and Causeway Boulevard in east Hillsborough County. Tests showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.065 and 0.061, below the 0.08 limit at which Florida motorists are considered too intoxicated to drive. He consented to a urine test, the results of which will be available in 3-6 weeks. Williams was released from Orient Road Jail at 8:04 a.m. after posting $500 bail and later that day, Williams took an independent test in hopes of proving his innocence, according to Bucs coach Raheem Morris and general manager Mark Dominik. "We gave Mike our own independent test and we're very pleased with the results that we got from our own independent results and he's completely clean," Morris during his Monday news conference. "We're going to let the due process take its course, and I know law enforcement would take a little longer than we would because obviously we can get our information that morning a lot faster than anybody else can, but we'll let due process take it. "We're completely confident that he's completely clean and we'll let our law enforcement do their due process because they do a great job at that as well." Source: Tampa Tribune
What a freaking joke. NFL is just mad because they don't have total control of the outcome of the tests. They can't make crap up now because the Bucs already have the results from the same test he took with the authorities.
Not that I think he should be punished but I'd like to point out that you can be below .08 and still get a DUI. In my experience if you have any alcohol in your system (CA experience only) they will still try and stick you with a DUI but it generally gets dropped to a wet & reckless. AJ, you really think this case will ever see a courtroom? The cop pulled over a black male driving a high profile vehicle, and charged him with suspicion of DUI. Rather then admit he was wrong or worse PROFILING.
I dunno man, I don't know the details of what happened other than he was pulled over and arrested for DUI with a BAC below the automatic DUI level. Was he speeding/swerving or driving recklessly? Run a stop sign? Did the officer have any cause at all to pull him over other than being a black male in a shiny car? If so I'd expect it to go to court and be pled down to a slap on the wrist W&R, if not then it'll probably be thrown out. If he wasn't a high-profile athlete I'd say no chance it's thrown out but he's got the $$ and fame to make it happen. It's the American justice system after all, money talks. **********Automerged Doublepost********** Just read details, apparently he was speeding and swerving (per the police anyway) so there apparently was legit cause to pull him over. Like I said, I'd expect it to go to court and get pled down, unless the cops piss test somehow comes back with something that the Bucs didnt.
in PA you can have up to a .02 as an underaged and they cant get you with a DUI or underaged drinking offense. and then .08 when your 21...ive never heard of a wet and reckless around here .06 like he had, im sorry, but it didnt impair him, hes a 23 year old 215 pound man....not a 4-9 96 pound 16 year old girl the NFL is getting involved for no reason though, they have no business looking into a drug test on this, must be because he was labeled a "character concern" guy in the draft
The only time I've ever heard of a DUI charge getting tossed is if there was some mistake by the officer in procedure or paperwork. Cops love DUI's because it's an easy one to charge and almost impossible to get dismissed. It's easy money in the state coffers, and they take advantage of that IMO. Barring a procedural error I really really doubt it gets tossed. Again, I only have experience in CA, but I've got a good bit of it and cops out here are freaking snitches about it. I'm not sure about the LEO attitude towards it elsewhere.
