NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was named the most influential person in sports this week by SportsBusiness Journal. It's the first time Goodell, who ranked No. 2 on the list last year, has topped the annual rankings. His predecessor, former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue, was named the most influential person in 2004. The No. 1 ranking comes as Goodell is overseeing the NFL's negotiations with the NFL Players Association over a new collective bargaining agreement. The current deal is set to expire in early March, and the specter of a potential work stoppage looms over both sides.

Because it's an american publication. We don't give a heck about the olympics or soccer. I had to look those names up.

Anyone who can generate the amount of money he does for non-profits should be the most influential person in sports. He raises hundreds of thousands each year.

    Typical of the average American.

They could have at least said American Sports. Jacques Rogge, Sepp Blatter, Michel Platini and Bernie Eccelstone off the top of my head are overall way more powerful than Goodell could ever dream of...
