49ers Coach Mike Singletary May Consider Making Another QB Change

Discussion in 'San Francisco 49ers' started by BigBlueBruiser, Dec 17, 2010.

  1. Following a demoralizing 34-7 loss to the Chargers, 49ers coach Mike Singletary said he considered inserting quarterback Troy Smith for Alex Smith, who fell back to earth after an exceptional game against Seattle on Sunday. Singletary also left open the possibility of going with Troy Smith in next Sunday's game in St. Louis. "Once again, I want to get back and look at the film," Singletary said. "It wasn't just Alex. ... I think our offensive line has to do a better job in terms of protecting him." Smith was 19 of 29 for 165 yards and was sacked six times. Singletary said he didn't remove Alex Smith from the game because "it would have been unfair to Troy Smith" who didn't get any first-team snaps in the abbreviated work week. "It is a different thing from going from Troy to Alex," he said. "I think it is a horrific thing to go from Alex to Troy." Part of Smith's problem was that his two primary receivers, Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree, rarely were open.

Geez, just end the 2010 season right now, I'm sick of Singletary....throwing the Oline under the bus now? There were times last night where Alex just held the ball too long, and he should know better after 6 freaking years.

How about the team make a coaching change first

Yep. I think Mike's time is done in San Fran.

  5. The Smith's likely won't be back either......it doesn't really matter who starts from here on out.

^ This. Being a good coach is about adapting and changing styles when see fit. Singletary appears to be unable to get out of his Ironfist, Motivational Speaker-esque mode, and to be honest from a neutral standpoint is a shame for the 49ers and their fans, because I really thought last year could have been the spark to restore some pride back in the franchise.

    This.

It doesn't help that it seems like the ownership/management is reluctant to get rid of Alex Smith. I think that hurt a little bit and had they made the move for Troy Smith BEFORE August, he could've saved some games for them. The loss to Carolina REALLY hurt them though

  9. back and forth flip flop how many times has he changed QB's this year?

Singletary obviously can't handle this. Thank God they have some talent for Gruden or whoever they bring in next.

3x --> Alex Smith to Carr then when Smith got hurt he went to Troy. When Troy struggled he went back to Alex, now Alex is struggling, go back to Troy.

Hell, when you're QB stable is as unproven as this, can you really blame the QB changes? I know he's been inconsistent as a coach, but there's one position he can't help.

Inconsistent as a coach???? He's a freaking bust and a half. He's not smart enough to be a head coach, he has NO, ZERO, ZILCH, NADA knowledge of X's and O's so realistically how can someone like that be a "consistent" and effective head coach? The only position he can help is Linebacker.

  12. I disagree. I don't care if the team isn't doing well. Name a Qb and stick with him. The QB controversy never turns out well.

He needs to name Troy/ Alex/ whoever his flavor of the week is and stick with him.

shoot at this point it may not be outrageous to get Nate Davis off the PS and see if he is any good.

Why not? Regardless of the current QB situation, management needs to open up the checkbook this offseason and bring in an EXCELLENT, proven head coach. Like Sweets has been saying, someone with knowledge of X's and O's

i think the only reason they would keep singletary at this point is because they are so cheap and would have to pay 2 coaches at the same time ..............
