Just a reminder that the overtime proposal goes into effect for the playoff. A team that wins the coin toss to be able to win the game with a touchdown on the first possession of overtime, while a field goal would allow the other team to get one possession to tie the game or win it with a touchdown, and if the outcome is not decided on the first possession by each team then a sudden-death format would follow. http://gridironfans.com/forums/late...sses-modified-overtime-proposal-playoffs.html
Agree BB. I think there were 19 overtime game this season and only 2 of them were decided on the first possession.
Or how about using the NCAA rule? If they are worried about bloating scores, then just have them play for a one point victory?
I think the other team should get one posession even if the receiving team scores a touchdown. If they get stopped than game over, similar to NCAA overtime but you have to go the whole field instead (or wherever you return the kickoff to).
It could be better, but it's still a step in the right direction, and a vast improvement over the past OT rules. Hopefully it will spread to regular season play next year.
No thanks. Keep the "gimmicks" in college. It's obvious by this seasons results that the rule isn't really necessary. It was an over reaction to the Vikings/Saints game
God forbid to deny Brett Favre of a chance to go to the Super Bowl and think all's well that ends well. Nobody snitched when that happened to Peyton Manning against San Diego two years ago.
Ward you said there were two games this year where a team lost when the other team won a coin toss and kicked a field goal. So the it's obvious it was necessary twice
Not what I said, but that's how it worked out. The 19 overtime games were the most since 2003 and in those 19 games, only two TD's were scored. Still doesn't make it necessary, especially to start it in the playoffs and not do it in the regular season first... Overreaction.
