seems like my super bowl cherry was just popped yesterday....but here i sit, 24 hours later still completely dumfounded/pissed/confused/and generally in a WTF mood about yesterday's events. come on, i'm a life long saints fan...i'm used to having my gridiron soul crushed but this one just feels different.....

is it supposed to hurt this bad?

how long until it stops hurting?

I wouldn't really know...the last two the Steelers won, they didn't make the playoffs the following year. lol...

Two others, they followed it up with a another one.

Be happy they won a recent one. Look at a team like the Eagles...how do you think they feel? Or Bills fans in the 90's? Ouch...

Bucs had a losing season after the Pirate Bowl. So I have no idea how you feel.

I'm usually pretty content for a year or two after the superbowl win.

Simmons says you have to wait 5 years after a sports title before you can snitch about anything that happens with your team. His 20 rules for being a sports fan is a pretty good read.
ESPN.com: Page 2 : Rules for being a true fan

    12. After your team wins a championship, they immediately get a five-year grace period: You can't complain about anything that happens with your team (trades, draft picks, salary-cap cuts, coaching moves) for five years. There are no exceptions. For instance, the Pats could finish 0-80 over the next five years and I wouldn't say a peep (column written in 2007). That's just the way it is. You win the Super Bowl, you go on cruise control for five years. Everything else is gravy.

Of course, I wouldn't know for sure. :icon_sad:

Everything tells me I should be calm cool and collected because we just won a super bowl last year, but I have never been more pissed at a sports team in my entire life!

So even though I know I shouldn't be I can't help but feel extremely pissed off. We should have one that game. I just feel that true sports fans would be upset and pissed after a loss in the playoffs or after missing the playoffs no matter how well they did the previous season, maybe thats just me.

I think you're allowed and probably supposed to be upset about it, it's just that no one cares. So you're not allowed to complain about it. If it happened last year, people would say, "Man, tough luck for the Saints again" or whatever. Now it's "Screw 'em, they just won one."

As a 49er fan I can not tell you what it feels like to suffer a loss in the actual Super Bowl :icon_cheesygrin:, I'd like to find my way back there again though. Losing in the playoffs suck the big one for a tad, seems like forever though.

I mean I understand I can't snitch and moan to people who havent won one in years, but amongst other Saints fans, or to myself in general I think its fine to snitch and moan and be pissed. And I will be...

The last Cowboys championship happened in '95. In '96 we lost to a freakin' expansion team in the play-offs...and didn't won another play-off game for 14 years. I got so overconfident for our success in the 90's that I just took it for granted.

What I'm trying to say is this: don't get too spoiled. You never know if you'll make it back in a reasonable amount of time. 15 years and counting for me.

  15. I never had to suffer through a Conference Championship defeat.....the Giants are 4-0 in the NFC Title game.....an NFL record for most wins in the title game in either conference without a loss. So generally when they make it that far.....its a safe bet they'll advance to the Super Bowl.

But I can tell you the Super Bowl 35 loss against Baltimore was one of the hardest things I went through as a fan of the Giants. The Ravens were just unstoppable that season. Felt the same way about the collapse against the 49ers in 2003 in the Wildcard.

In 2008.....after the Giants won Super Bowl 42.....steamrolled to an 11-1 start.....best in franchise history. I wholeheartedly agree with Brandon Jacobs assessment that we would've been 15-1 and repeated if Plaxico hadn't brought his gun to that nightclub.

It's going to sting for a while SF but before you know it....the draft will be here and minicamps will be right around the corner. Then the excitement for the upcoming season appears. After the Super Bowl.....everyone is 0-0 again.

    Anything can happen. :peace:

  16. It's a new era for the Saints organization.....I see them as annual contenders.

There are no hard and fast rules for how long it takes to get over a playoff loss, just as there are no concrete rules for mourning the loss of a loved one. To be fair, I only had a brief taste of championship glory, until Big Ben and Santonio Holmes poured five gallons of castor oil down my throat so I am not really qualified to answer.

I would shed a tear, if we hadn't had broke a 6-42 streak by blowing the chance of a playoff spot on the last day...

It doesn't hurt as bad as going 18-1, trust me.
