Colts SS Bob Sanders' Agent Expects Team To Redo Contract

Discussion in 'Indianapolis Colts' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jan 19, 2011.

  1. On Friday, Colts owner Jim Irsay said the team was discussing the possibility of redoing strong safety Bob Sanders' deal — something agent Tom Condon is already preparing for. "I anticipate the same thing you do," Condon said. "The guy doesn't play for three consecutive years, they're probably not real excited about that, and they paid the other safety, what $6.5 million, this year. Is there another team in the league that pays both its safeties more than $5 million? The answer is no. So he doesn't have to tell me anything." Sanders signed a $37.5 million contract after winning the 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award. Sanders has played in only nine regular-season games over the past three seasons, and he's missed more games (64) than he's played in (48) during his seven-year career.

It's really not his fault that he has to get hurt because that defense is so bad that he has to come up on plays that he really shouldn't and get tangled up with guys 2 maybe even 3 times his size.

  3. Sanders has missed way too much time to be making that kind of money......

This year he got injured trying to make an interception and got tangled with another defender. Guy is just injury prone. As soon as the contract was signed, I saw this coming. A lot of money on a long-term contract for a guy that gets injured a ton.

He is exactly what I expected coming out of Iowa. Great player that is always around the ball and so all out that he get injured. Risk reward.....he's awesome when he's in there but you can be sure he'll be hurt at some point and not be able to go.
