Quarterback Mark Sanchez had problems communicating with the New York Jets coaching staff Sunday night because the headset he was wearing malfunctioned during a 24-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. "It never really happened for that long of a time," Sanchez said. "We had to use a walkie talkie at one point and [offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer] was just yelling calls in at one point. It was just another challenge, and we almost overcame it." The primary headset used to communicate with the quarterback went out after the first possession, and the backup unit stopped functioning in the fourth quarter as the Jets were attempting to convert on a first-and-two with roughly eight minutes left in the game and down 24-10. Sanchez had to run over to the sideline to talk to Schottenheimer. He also needed to yell out the calls to others on the offense as the Steelers fans at Heinz Field roared over the confusion. "The problem was the headset kept going out multiple times during the game," Sanchez said, "so I had to run over and get a couple calls, piece together some calls on the headset that came in broken up. It was one of those things we were fighting through I was proud of our guys for trying to piece it together." Source: ESPN.com
Know were gonna get all different kind of excuses because they loss. Hey Jets just admit to loss. you couldnt back your trash talking
How lame. Does this officially begin the excuse phase of the Jets losing? ESPN and Mike Greenberg will undoubtedly get the ball rolling on behalf of their Jets and then we'll move into the conspiracy theory phase.
Your right. This was just an excuse they made up. Him ACTUALLY running to the sidelines to get the calls was just an attempt to sell the excuse to you all.
Phigles....I am disappointed in you. I can't believe that you didn't blame the NFL for making the headsets malfunction so the SteAlers could get the win....you're slipping my friend.
Don't think I didn't notice the wireless mike of the horse faced sideline wench went dead when she was trying to do a report from the Jets sideline. I KNOW why the Jets headsets were malfunctioning and who's to blame.
well electronics always work, especially when banged around in -1 degrees...clearly this was staged to make sure the steelers won. classless
Just man up take it on the chin, don't blame something else because you didn't do well, even if the mic is down shouldn't you have been prepared from the whole weeks worth of practice just in case that crap happens??? There is always next year right!?!?
The best part is that it occurred on and off all night and the Jets have no plan in place for when it happens. Not like it could ever happen that you might want to prepare for it! Kudos to the guy jamming the Jets signals. Bring him to Dallas and don't forget the Refs "suitcase."
That is a legit point. However, don't try to act like the Steelers aren't HEAVILY favored on a regular basis by the officiating. You have to be blind not to see it.
