The Pro Bowl earned its highest television rating since 2000. The NFC's 55-41 victory over the AFC on Sunday drew a 7.7 rating and 12 share on Fox. That's up 8 percent from last year, when the game first moved from the week after the Super Bowl to the week before it. The game earned a 21.0/28 in New Orleans. Milwaukee averaged a 15.6/23 even though no Super Bowl-bound Packers were playing in it. Source: Associated Press
The Pro Bowl will always be a rating magnet despite it's criticism......but some of the rules do need to be changed. 1.) They should allow blitzing at least on third downs. 2.) They should allow multiple receiver sets without a tight end. 3.) They should allow coaching challenges. 4.) Field Goals beyond 50 yards should be worth 4 points. 5.) Winner of Pro Bowl should receive $50,000 and the loser receives nothing.
Hell, incorporate both, remember when they used to make the airing of the skills competitions entertaining?
I was shocked when I heard the ratings were this high. I didn't watch a single play. Hell, I haven't even seen a single highlight from the game.
With the nature of this game, it will never be appealing because how physical it is. Players aren't going to play this game like it is a regular season or playoff contest. It is what it is... I don't think anyone is expecting any more...
