It was quite a week for the locked-out NFL players, what with talk of an "alternative" draft, Adrian Peterson's line about "modern-day slavery" — backed up by the Steelers Rashard Mendenhall — and the Chargers' Kevin Burnett calling commissioner Roger Goodell a liar. "It would probably be nice to have that (public sentiment) victory, but I think the players realize they'll never win it," said ESPN analyst and former NFL offensive lineman Mark Schlereth. Well, no, not if they keep pulling stuff like this. "They're horrible from a public-relations standpoint," Schlereth said. Besides that, in most sports labor disputes, fans usually regard the owners as slightly less despicable than the players. But in this current squabble, the players are thumping the owners, according to several polls. In one of them, New York state residents took the players' side by a 58-21 margin. eh, the poll they mention was in new york ............ of course the flaming liberal state of ny would be staunchly against rich, old guys whether it was fair or not.
right, clearly it's because they are liberal....oh WAIT I am a conservative. READY. I favor the PLAYERS by A LOT!
It's takes two to tango. Supporting either is supporting a lockout, because both sides are blinded by greed.
I favor sending all those heckers to Auschwitz I bet visiting where the Jews suffered so much will give them some perspective
You want to blame someone, blame the public for making the game much more important than it ever needed to be. Blame everyone who ever bought a souvenir, jersey, hat, jackets, cup, rug, bedroom sheets, curtains etc. Why blame the players for wanting more, when they have always gotten more, the owners made sure of that. Blame everyone who treats the players like Gods, and blame everyone for buying season tickets to the games in those stadiums that had to rebuilt and rebuilt again to accommodate the ever growing numbers of fans again willing to shell out thousands of dollars for the sport they have grown to love. If anyone is going to sit there and blame either the players for being greedy or the owners for wanting ALL the money all the while you buy everything related to football than look in the mirror and blame that person looking back at you.
Is there any need to make every topic political/a matter of conservative vs. liberal Capt? I have to agree with Sweets somewhat though, we, as fans, have made this game huge, it's a money maker and the most popular sport in the US. As the pie grows, both sides are going to want more, but you can't put the game (which is at its height) in jeopardy, and have to find some way to come up with a resolution. These are grown men, they should be able to reach a solution without fingerpointing....sadly, this isn't true, and polls like this don't really help either side's argument.
Excellent Sweets As much as I hate how both sides are conducting buisness, its the dollars they got from us that has them wanting more. Its only natural to want more, infact there is something wrong with you if you dont. There are a few promotions opening at my company, and alot of people arent putting in because they simply dont like the company. My question to them has been "Why dont you want more money, whats wrong with you" Not completely comparable, but the point is you need to out to get more for yourself
