Prince Amukamara Fell In Draft Because Of His Nigerian Background?

Discussion in 'New York Giants' started by BigBlueBruiser, May 1, 2011.

  1. Cornerback Prince Amukamara fell to the Giants at the 19th pick, but he probably should have been a top 10 pick based on talent and in many draft rooms, the scouts liked Amukamara more than the coaches. The DB coaches and defensive coordinators got together and decided they weren’t as high on Amukamara as many of their scouting counterparts, and they pointed to Amukamara’s short arms (30 1/2 inches, 71 ½ inch wingspan) and small hands (8 ½ inches), and there may have been more to the story. A lot of NFL people are skeptical about Nigerian players like Amukarma. “And it’s not just white men,†one executive said. “It’s whites and blacks.†The word on Nigerians: they are soft, not tough enough and too educated. It would be a pity if that’s what cost Amukamara.

  2. Prince is anything but soft......he is a physical and willing tackler for a corner. He's soft spoken and polite off the field but it's a whole lot different on it.

It's their loss......we're more than happy to have him. A Top 10 talent at No. 19......works for me. And I think it's cool he's proud of his nigerian background.

Teams are going to regret that kind of thinking when he becomes a real stud in the secondary.

What a crock of crap. Some players slide. It's what happens in the draft.

86 it comes from one freaking moron who obviously isn't as educated as the Nigerians.

  10. Character is more important in today's NFL than ever before.....Prince has no checked history whatsoever. Not even a parking ticket. He's a locker room leader and always willing to work hard.

    What more can you want?

And his short arms....maybe if he was 5'9.....then I would be concerned. But at 6' foot......it doesn't really matter if you ask me.

That was one of my favorite things about what the media used to say about Terrell Davis. "He was so well spoken."
