Eagles Believe "This Is The Year" To Win The Super Bowl

Discussion in 'Philadelphia Eagles' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jun 15, 2011.

  1. As the NFL’s players and owners work toward a new collective bargaining agreement that could end the lockout before the Fourth of July, Eagles general manger Howie Roseman sits anxiously in his office at the NovaCare Complex, itching for the fireworks to begin. Armed with an expendable quarterback, Kevin Kolb, that numerous teams covet and secure in the conviction that the Michael Vick-led Eagles can contend for a Super Bowl championship, Roseman can’t wait to start wheeling and dealing in rapid-fire fashion. “We need to get this [labor dispute] settled,†Roseman said lightheartedly Tuesday via speakerphone as he drove home from work. “I’m ready for some action – right now.†With the Eagles coming off a surprisingly successful season which ended 27 yards short of a playoff triumph over the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers, Roseman is – with apologies to “American Idol†judge Randy Jackson – in it to win it. Though the owner-imposed lockout prevents Roseman from commenting on specific players, another Eagles source familiar with the organization’s thinking threw out names like Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, ex-New York Giants wideout Plaxico Burress and even current New Orleans Saints halfback Reggie Bush as players Philly might explore as potential acquisitions. “This is the year,†the source said earlier this week. “We think we have a great shot to win it, and we’re loading up and going for it.†Owner Jeffrey Lurie recently expressed a similar sentiment to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Ashley Fox, saying, “We’re ready to roll when there’s a new league year. … We’ve got a great plan in place, and you never know what you can accomplish, but I know we’re going to be both aggressive and hopefully make the right decisions. It’s frustrating to be a team that’s poised to make some of the moves we want to make and not be able to. I think we’ll all be excited when the league year starts.†Roseman, who turns 36 next week, has been preparing for the lockout’s abrupt end and league year’s beginning – and the corresponding start of free agency and allowance of other player transactions – for the past several months.

I imagine it will be Super Bowl or bust for Andy Reid, especially with Jeff Fisher waiting in the wings for a new opportunity.

Seems like that has been the case for a while. I still think they're going to struggle in the secondary.

Sign Aso, maybe take a flyer on Haynesworth for old time's sake (DL coach), and get a defensive playmaker for Kolb if they indeed plan on trading him.

That right there makes the birds contenders.

They think that? Well that changes everything. The rest of the NFL teams should save the money and not even play them this year.

I believe this crop of Eagles could still have another NFC Championship chokejob in them.

Could the Eagles win the Super Bowl this season? Sure...

Would I bet money on it? NO...

I am sure a lot of top contending teams believe this is the year to win it, too. Not just the Eagles. If you're not "in it to win it" then, why even show up and play the game? 31 other teams may believe the same thing, if they don't? Then get the hell out of the NFL.

They won't win a SB if Vick plays the way he did in the last two games he played last season. IMO, he regressed to the player he was before the Eagles signed him.

he regressed because of the crap protection in front of him.

if the o-line doesnt improve enough it won't matter who they aquire at other spots, they won't go far in the playoffs if they even make it. remember, the eagles made changes at the DC and o-line coach spots and neither guy has had a chance to work in his philosophies. that could hurt them.

He regressed because of his inability to locate the hot route.

Whether that is put on Mornhinweg or Vick, I don't know. But it was no secret that he was gonna get blitzed like a mother hecker and he did not get the ball out quickly to the guy that should have had some room as a result of that blitz.

By no means am I saying the line play was good. But when five, six guys are coming, that ball needs to be out of his hands fast and someone should have some room. It just wasn't happening.

To say he regressed to the player he was before the Eagles signed him is just damn silly though.

vicks health is big, he was heroic last year but that has to continue....and hes just one of those guys whos gonna be beat up time after time because borderline illegal hits are never called on him and he takes quite a few

My point was he fumbled twice in the final game against the Vikings. That was a knock on him when he played for Atlanta. He didn't protect the ball.

And because he is a smaller quarterback. That is the main drawback of being a running QB. Run so much and effectively refs allow the defender to hit him. otherwise he would pretend to go out of bounds and when the defender relaxed he would run for more yardage. also a message to him not to run.
